I've seen this - but maybe others will like it.

I had to research about her after a certain MI-__
accused ME of being she, so I could refute him with proper details --!
Anyway it's obvious she is quite different than I am so
no more had to be said on that one.

I think some viewer complained that the interviewer interrupts her
constantly.

I disagreed, because her story line is not all that clear.
Clarification helps as one goes along.

I have to say the truth as Truth is my middle name - so to speak
I can't imagine WHY she married a Muslim man without asking him
ONCE about the religion.
Even as a simple fact-finding quest about his life and beliefs...
Struck me as WEIRD>

Then she marries an ISRAELI guy, from what I remember, apparently
equally oblivious to all the politics involved.

Perhaps he was checking her out, as she was a fairly prominent reporter ?

I'm just throwing out some thoughts that bothered me.

Well I'm glad she's gotten her life together.

I like seeing this early avatar pic of GYE's again.
Gives a real flavor of the area, after all.

Well I did read some excerpts from British newspaper interviews
of Yvonne Ridley's, and she led a loose life - maybe the norm in secular society these days. She tells of running out from work during the daytime to
get a drink of alcohol - probably quite frequently.
It's what I have mentioned about so many journalists being outright alcoholics or borderline ones
She was living a wild life, and like many Westerners, probably had a big emptiness deep inside which she was attempting to
1) hide from the rest of the world
2) fill up with all these superficial and worse, self-destructive lifestyle

From this angle, one can marvel at the major transformation in her life when she found religion, Islam.

I suspect that she draws on a perhaps cynicism to write sharp barbs against
many injustices such as those done by Israel to Palestinians.

I still WONDER why she never was politically awake during the years she was married to the Palestinian - one would think he would have explained all the history and politics to her.

could it not be that your attention finds it difficult to escape me regardless of what it is that i do..? for instance, this picture that you are looking at is a 28 year old picture which belongs to a woman who is over 50 years old now...not mine. you assuming it was mine is your fault, your problem and your need of confronting me about it in such a manner is your need for my attention.
this is not the first nor will it be the last time an as.s like you has walked up to me with the assumption of what i or my intentions are so don't expect me to be bothered with you or your type but do consider giving it a break because you might not realize it but it makes you appear bigger of an as-s than you actually are.

Fair enough question. The issue is you providing corroborating evidence that this is her intention. Ridley was an initiating member of a dominant Women's Journalism organization much prior to her conversion. Naomi Wolf defended her and faced a furious onslaught of abuse subsequently. She also appears to have pissed off some people at Al Jazeera and was let go based on what was called her confrontational manner, so her nature appears to be like George Galloway's. At the outset of the post 9/11 invasion a group of Christian missionaries held hostage by the Taliban. Two of the girls, Heather Mercer and Dayna Curry initially talked about how their captors, the Taliban, were extremely kind to them and buttressed Ridley's story:

They noted that they were given a fair defense and termed it excellent, when they were provided a Pakistani defense lawyer, who, despite having sympathies for the Talibs, was vigorous in their defense. Subsequently, the American media had folks like Bill O Riley who accused them of being soft on the Taliban. Even then, their rhetoric only changed slightly where they insisted that they were well treated, but that the nicest men amongst the Taliban that gaurded them were not really Taliban in spirit. Here is a review of their recent book:

It is notable that this trait is confirmed time and time again in the pre 9/11 invasion era even by non Muslim parliamentarians like the Afghan Sikh community leader:

What appears to be happening was predicted by Osama Bin Ladin's son in his interview with Rolling Stone. He noted that the old gaurd were actually very chivalrous and that as attempts were made to decapitate Taliban and Al Qaeda leadership as opposed to listening to their very legitimate demands about American/Western interventionalism, the new gaurd that fills the vaccum is filled with much more ferocious young men raised in the new era of war.

Paul Refsdahl appears to confirm this in his documentary Behind the Masks where the old gaurd Commander Duaran is far more friendly, leniant, and just than his cow boy young commander Omar.
