  • And so, any (each one) of you should save himself from the fire even by giving
    half of a date-fruit (in charity). And if you do not find a half date-fruit, then (you
    can do it through saying) a good pleasant word (to your brethren)

    -Narrated by 'Adi bin Hatim (Bukhari, book 2, volume 24, hadith 494)
    ---
    To advise others is an easy matter, the difficulty is accepting advice -- since it is bitter for those who follow their
    own inclinations and desires

    • A man giving a dirham as sadaqah during his life is better than giving one
      hundred dirhams as sadaqah at the moment of his death.

      -Narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (Abu Dawud, book 17, hadith 2860)

      Sadaqah = charity
      Dirham = silver coin

      • Judges are of three types, one of whom will go to Paradise and two to Hell. The
        one who will go to Paradise is a man who knows what is right and gives
        judgment accordingly; but a man who knows what is right and acts tyrannically
        in his judgment will go to Hell; and a man who gives judgment for people when
        he is ignorant will go to Hell.

          does it mean finger crossed?

          • It would probably have been specifically mentioned that they were crossed if that was the case.

            I believe that it means like this:

            Showing how close he is to such a person, although I doubt it matters much, the same message is given.

            • Allah's Apostle said, "While a man was walking he felt thirsty and went down a
              well and drank water from it. On coming out of it, he saw a dog panting and
              eating mud because of excessive thirst. The man said, 'This (dog) is suffering
              from the same problem as that of mine. So he (went down the well), filled his
              shoe with water, caught hold of it with his teeth and climbed up and watered the
              dog. Allah thanked him for his (good) deed and forgave him." The people asked,
              "O Allah's Apostle! Is there a reward for us in serving (the) animals?" He replied,
              "Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate."

                • The one who looks after a widow or a poor person is like a Mujahid (warrior)
                  who fights for Allah's Cause, or like him who performs prayers all the night and

                      • Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a
                        man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood
                        leads to Al-Fajur (i.e. wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fajur (wickedness) leads
                        to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before
                        Allah, a liar.

                            Some people asked Allah's Apostle (saaws) about the foretellers. He said. -They are nothing." They said, -O Allah's Apostle! Sometimes they tell us of a thing which turns out to be true." Allah's Apostle said, "A Jinn snatches that true word and pours it into the ear of his friend (the foreteller) (as one puts something into a bottle). The foreteller then mixes with that word one hundred lies."

                            • Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) said: "When the coffin is ready (for its burial) and people lift it on their shoulders, then if the deceased is a righteous person he says, 'Take me ahead,' if he is not a righteous one, then he says, 'Woe to it (me)! Where are you taking it (me)!' And his voice is audible to everything except human beings; if they heard it they would fall down unconscious." [Bukhari]
