He does not vouch for their authenticity, similar to when he reported the Satanic Verses he did this as a good and honest historian discussing the "stories of the hour" that had reached his ears and that he felt he ought to record for posterity.

In regard to both the Satanic Verses that have been thoroughly debunked by Western scholars as well as our own (Tabari actually concedes he has no isnaad to report on it either), Tabari takes the same stance on this story.

However, I want you to know brother that it matters not whether you are shiah or sunni, despite me being a sunni. We are one people with one goal. I have a great many shia friends and I still recall that when we were in Jalalabad my father was surrounded and going to be severely beaten when he defended a shiah. The sunnis had accused him of spitting in their food based on their religious traditions and my father asked the observers where they gleaned their evidences from. Luckily folks intervened.

That being said, these men, Umar, Ali, the beloved Zain ul Abideen and these women, Aishaah, Fatimah Bibi, etc are gone from the earth. The discussion of the historicity of evens surrounding them is extremely important for the sake of just that, for the sake of history. However, determining our bonds and ties with eachother ought to not hinge on their actions. They are in their graves and we will reach ours soon enough.

This is not an attempt to shut down discussion, its just a commentary on how these events of the past should be scrutinized for the sake of history and not for the sake of moving forward together.

I enjoy reading your posts and your contributions to the medical thread.

He records it but has no isnaad for the event. It would be very similar to his recording of the Satanic verses.

However, if the discussion is in regard to the validity of Khalid's actions or how they reflect on him as a person, doesn't The khalifa's rebuke give you the sunni answer to your question?

the event happened... someone was killed and his wife was then either married (an invalid marriage) or raped... as for the caliph he is not above Gods laws... he shld have tried Khalid not mearly called it an "error of judgement" this is in stark contrast to the 2nd caliphs attitude who actually wanted the trial... consider the 2nd caliphs attitude to Khalid whn he assumed the caliphate
