I know, I know.... that's not what secularism is about, but neither what Islam or Muslims are about, nor are these guys representatives of it. Doesn't stop you from making the comparison though.

You guys should rejoice, he is doing exactly what you would like to see and allowed. What's with will all the moral objections?
Wrayun, now that is called logical fallacy...because you are digressing from the main point being highlighted here i.e., the hypocrisy/duplicity and the element in the religion that cause/engender authoritarian tendencies...and the exploitation/subjugation that comes with that...

By the way, what do you stand for?

I say, if the elite party they should allow the levity to party as well AND if the masses are forced to abide by something, the elite should also abide by that...

Furthermore, why the ultra-puritanical view if that is not humanly sustainable?

Someone, please define "Islamist" for me, and mention whether it is synonymous with the word "Islamic" or not. If not, what is the point of scholars' creating this confusing word?

I wanna see if people actually know what they're talking about or aware of the history, politics, and significance behind the word.
I don't think I ever claimed scholarship...am pretty a commonar commenting on things as I understand them (the understanding may be wrong ...that accepted)...

The 'Islamist' here is intended to mean individuals/groups that use Islam as a political philosophy to acquire the right to rule others...that use Islam to argue in whom sovereignty should be vested....

Now the Saudi princes or royal family are choosing one way of life for themselves (although behind the door ) while have appointed ministry of vices and virtues on the rest...How may citizens of SA would have prefered to party had they been ALLOWED that?

Now, your definition is what most others use as well, at least in the academia. What do they/you call a Christian who usurps power in the name of Christianity? Or a Hindu in the name of Hinduism, a Jew in the name of Judaism, etc.?
I don't know how should I have called them...Somehow, this term came in vogue...May be, we don't have the equivalent terms/concepts in other religions because there is no example/movement in them in modern times of basing the right to rule on religion...

You didn't need wikileaks to tell you that.

It's a well known fact that saudi "princes" (and kuwaiti and emaratis) live a luxuries life style that even impress the rich and powerful of hollywood. Why else is Dubai what it is today? a mini-Vegas. There is a nice documentary on Google that shows exactly how they spend their time in europe partying and "living it up" like other rich folks. They throw money at fine european women, in the thousands and pretty much "buy" them like that. Body guards, some of the best in the field, especially trained and picked to accomany them.

MI6, Toromoro you must be mad to think that these people are living like that because Islam tells them to. It's called "classicism" and it is based on economics. Morals is how society "ought" to be, economics is how society actually is. No one in arabia goes down to india and "enslaves" a man into bondage. Rather the poor are driven by desperation to serve the rich. In the short amount of time I ve been here you've both made it clear that you have some sort of repressed angst towards "religion" in general. It seems as if this whole time you are just trying to validate your own disbelief in Islam..."oh see, if we were muslims, we would be lead by such corrupt and immoral beings..see everyone wikileaks shows that we were right all along...saudies are muslims and saudies are heathens therefore muslims are heathens." Really such fallacious syllogisms are the product of a delusional mind.
