  • India says it has direct interest in Afghanistan to fight terrorism

NEW DELHI (PAN): India will continue to help Afghanistan rebuild despite the grave risk to its nationals because it has an interest in preventing extremists from using the country to attack India, the country’s foreign secretary hs said.
"We have a direct interest in Afghanistan, not because we see it as a theatre of rivalry with Pakistan but because of the growing fusion of terrorist groups that operate from Afghanistan and Pakistan and their activities in India," India's foreign secretary, Nirupama Rao, said at a South Asia Initiative talk on India's Global Role at Harvard University in the United States.
"Indeed, developments in Afghanistan over the past few years have demonstrated in ample measure that peace, security and prosperity in today’s world is indivisible, and that therefore, the international community in Afghanistan must stay the course," she said, according to a transcrip of her speech posted on the Harvard University website.
"Our development partnership, which has received wide appreciation of the Afghan people, has been guided primarily by the needs of the Afghan government and people. We stand by this commitment despite the grave threat under which our personnel and people are working in Afghanistan to transform the lives of ordinary Afghan people," she said.
Indian assistance to Afghanistan has amounted to over $ 1.3 billion since 2001 which has helped build vital civil infrastructure, develop human resources and capacity in the areas of education, health, agriculture, rural development, Rao said.
India citizens have been attacked and killed while working n Afghanistan, the most recent was in February of this year when the Taliban attacked a guesthouse used by Indian medical workers, killing nine Indians.
Earlier last month, in a joint statement with his Indian counterpart, foreign ministers of the two countries resolved to work with together to deny terrorists a safe haven.

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

People can call it something else, but they can not call people who want freedom terrorists.

Well, like I said it is good that India thinks like this. for now, we need all the aid we can get to rebuild.
India is not confused. India wants a stable Afghanistan which can eventually serve its own interests. No one is confused enough to invest $1billion dollars in a nation. India has an active intelligence agency.

India has justified causes for its concern in regards to Afghanistan. After conquering Kabul in 1996, Pakistan's regulars as well as their 'Muhajideen' allies were transported to the Line of Control in Kashmir. With Pakistan's western border secure, the state used all its resources to increase terrorist activities inside Indian-controlled Kashmir. Glorious events such as the failed Kargil War as well as the attack on the Kashmiri parliament took place in the process.

As we speak, there's an independent separatist civil movement going on in Kashmir which is not showing any signs of dying down. If Pakistan once again achieves peace on its western border (which it will), it will inevitably unleash LeT and other terrorist outfits in Kashmir thereby making life pretty miserable for India.

India is in no way confused. It understands fully how a Taliban victory in Afghanistan would directly lead to an increase in terrorist activities within India and Kashmir.

India only wants the to ensure that the Taliban don't come back in power.

gulalai, I think you've been a little out of touch with the current preferences back home. People use Tiger Balm now.

            Official website:

Tiger Balm's leadership position as an innovator and modern-day pain relief specialist is well recognised by many renowned brand experts.

It has won many awards over the years, but one of the most outstanding awards it won recently was the prestigious Heritage Brand Award clinched in 2005. Jointly organised by the Association of Small and Medium Enterprise (ASME) and Lianhe Zaobao in Singapore, this win is testament to Tiger Balm's commitment to building a brand that stays relevant to consumers' demands over the years.

Another impressive achievement would be the Singapore Brand Award that Tiger Balm clinched in 2002. Organised by International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore), this award reinforces Tiger Balm's dedication to building a strong and valuable Singapore brand. To date, Tiger Balm has been ranked among Singapore's top 15 most valuable brand for five times running.

Tiger Balm's place as a distinctive icon of Singapore is also well acknowledged. It was identified as one of the top national design icons over the past 40 years by the Designers Association of Singapore (DAS).

Hahaha...East Asian stuff--could be less riskier than the local "no-relief-only-pain-in-disguise" balms

A life savior--Tiger Balm! My life was no less than a burning hell with persistent headaches, wounds, stomach upsets, and sporadic outbreaks of infectious agents such as virues from "neighboring" marshes. These highly mutated viruses from external areas severely damaged my immune system.I felt weak and crippled all the time like an old man.I lost my strength and enthusiasm.I could not fight my enemy anymore. Then one day my well-wisher gave me Tiger balm for free, telling me how it will fix some of my problems. Now I use tiger balm on my wounded calves and back muscles to regain my old strength. It has started working!!
A rub of tiger balm a day, keeps all annoying things away!
