Afghanistan's biggest and best chance at increased prosperity is through increased trade and cooperation with the Central Asian states, as Pakistan is antagonistic and insane, and Iran is constantly a victim of international sanctions (not to mention being bipolar in its treatment of Afghanistan).
2. The narrative of Central Asia being a major beneficiary of the fictional "silk road." A lot of people, including the current Chinese government, think reviving Central Asia's imaginary role as a major trading route between China and Europe will bring prosperity to the entire region.
