Majority Pashtuns I met come off as kinda nationalistic. Kinda ironic to have a problem with others who are fed with ethno-centrism and want a fresh restart. Funny thing is in the West afghans always Guess me Afghan, but the moment I tell Them I speak Farsi and dont understand much pashto, they dont want to speak again. Lol

Khurasan was actually an Islamic superpower of time. The name is neutral, is bound in Islam and has Islamic history. Anyone can be a proud Khurasani. pashtun, Hazara, Uzbeks, kyrgyz, Turkmens, tajik/farsizaban.

Afghanistan is a Persian name anyway. Afghan is an exonyn. Thats why Pashto speakers in the past hated when Persian speakers refered to them as Afghans or Awghans. It's called Pashtunwali for a reason, and not Afghanwali 😉

From an Indian pov, I Think Pashtuns of Afghanistan should join Pakistan. Pakistan Is a country in the rise. The Pakistani Pashtuns have a higher living standards than anyone in Afghanistan.

Hazara, Tajiks, Uzbeks, Turkmens are Central Asians through and through. None of those groups are tribal societies. Pashtuns have more in common with Punjabis in Pakistan who are also organized as a tribal society. I dont know what Pashtuns are doing with those groups honestly. You guys should just merge with Pakistan. Win win for everyone.
So you're an Indian that gets confused for an Afghan, but you only speak Farsi?

Sounds like you logged into the wrong account killzai.

He was just stringent when it came to moral violations like drinking or the like. He also seemingly encouraged schools and education without any undue interference or hampering.

The ban of Television in Afghanistan at the time is over blown since more than 95% of the people did not have television sets anyways. This is only mentioned for Western audiences but to Afghans that was no big deal. Most people listened to radio.

Ismal Khan did not interfere with senior religious figures that had more influence and say about daily life like education and entertainment.
Herat did have a "Office for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice" who did ban most music, kite flying and keeping pigeons for hobby purposes.

Of course he had such a thing. People weren't against the Taliban because they were bringing a Shari'ah structured society or government. People were against the Taliban, partly because of the political associations and interests they were facilitating and the type of "brand" of "shari'ah" they were bringing went into egregious levels of aggression and intrusion on their personal lives and cultural values. It wasn't just conservative but stagnating.

Ismail Khan showed you can have conservative values structured and not go into those same excesses. ....

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."
