I actually don't know much about Panjshiri music .....I always thought Qataghani was something Panjshiris did but I eventually learned it's actually an Uzbek thing that everyone else caught on to.
Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

I know communists didn't have any mercy wether you're old or young. If you fled to Pakistan and they caught you, you would get suspected for being mujahideen and get locked up and tortured. If you had no connections to big fishes in Khad you wouldn't get released. Mujahideen had at least until they turned mad honor.Originally posted by Firdousi View PostIt does not take me by surprise. They were enemies. But KHAD was way more brutal than any jihadi group. Just like right now Assad has proved to be way more brutal than all opposition groups combined. I guess we live in a land of khayens.
You can find both in my family. Ones who were communists and ones who were mujahideen. They now get along and no one cares who did fight for whom. We should leave that behind like you said. Fortunately I think we have. In my opinion this khadist vs mujahid is just an online thing.

aaaah yes, this type of style is always at weddings when people dance. I recall the word qarsak tossed around but I didn't make the connection. It is catchy....but I hate the cheesy keyboard segues they have in the modern versions.Originally posted by Firdousi View PostThey got this music style called "qarsak". Mast music.

Bechesh we are Afghans. All our families are a complex mishmash of several ideologies, religions and ethnicities all of them coexisting to some degree. In my family I got pro-jamiatis, pro-commies, monarchists, pro-democracy, pro-Daud (I have a huge respect for the man despite its emotional problems), etc. I got Kandahari relatives, Iranian-Ajami relatives, Shias, Islamized Westerners and even a Sindhi guy is married to a Herati girl of my family. Our memoonis, khastegaris and other "mafels" are hilarious af.Originally posted by Elias View PostI know communists didn't have any mercy wether you're old or young. I look at my family and other Afghan, Arab, Turkish, families and I realize how lucky we are. We live in a rich and diverse world which makes our lives better. I pity Westerners with their boring atomized families/societies. Hope our societies never turn into something like that where nothing matters and revolves around having fun and getting drunk."For thirty years, I endured much pain and strife,

Him and Gulbadeen were both power hungary and wretched. If he wasn't power hungary, he would have left Kabul instead of dooking it out with Dostom and Gulbadeen destroying the city in the process. It means the 3 would rather see the city and its inhabitants destroyed than relinquish power.Originally posted by Iblis_Efreetzai View PostWTF is up with his facial tattoo ...lol ....
Anyways Akbar, any reason you're trying to stir bigotry with fellow Afghans.
By the way I used to be Anti-Massoud, but after looking at history from objective sources, he made a lot of bad judgements, worked with some terrible commanders under him, but he wasn't himself very power ambitious. He's definitely not as bad as some of the Pashtun warlords from Mashreq that he had to deal with ...and no way was he as wretched as Gulbodeen........I think he had good intentions bad execution. We should look at the man in proper context.
The only Tajik warlord that had some decency was Ismal Khan.Last edited by khushal; 07-23-2018, 03:02 PM.

Daud lit the match that destroyed Afghanistan for his own power hungry needs. He took out the monarchists and brought in the communists that eventually killed him and brought the Soviet invasion. Lose the respect for him.pro-Daud (I have a huge respect for the man despite its emotional problems)Last edited by khushal; 07-23-2018, 03:03 PM.

Not really. Habibullah Kalakani can claim that too but the reality was that was not a Pashtun/farsiwan thing. The Pashtun hegemony during the 90s was destroyed by Najib. He put in Uzbek and Tajik officers around him in powerful positions because he feared Pashtuns would execute a coup on him which didn't work cause Dostom backstabbed him in the end. Most Pashtuns could see Gulbadeen as too power hungry for Pashtuns to come to his aid as a united force. He was just another power hungry warlord like Masoud.Originally posted by Firdousi View PostThe Salang Pass Treaty is overrated. People truly believe in a war enemies are like 24/7 fighting each other. Thats not true. Just look at the Syrian war: USA and Kurds allowed Daesh to leave Raqqa. SAA allowed Daesh to leave Deir Ezzor. Russia allowed Rebels to leave Aleppo and join Idlib. Iran reached with Al Nusra, the local Al Qaeda´s offshoot, to leave Zabadani and mover to north. Right now Russia cut a a deal with Rebels in Daraa, next to Jordan and Israel, to leave to Idlib. Its something normal in wartime.
Massouds deal with Russia has been exaggerated by Pashtun nationalists. They truly hate him because Jamiat proved that Pashtuns can be military defeated and also the Pashtun hegemony was destroyed by Massoud.
Still, all this is pointless. He is dead. We should move on. I read all these threads and I realize how even now, many years after their dead, Afghans still disrespecting each other over some guys who are dead. Lets move on, people.Last edited by khushal; 07-23-2018, 06:22 AM.

That right there was a contention I USED to have, but Dostum was working for Najib at the time and Gulboddeen was a psychopath, if he didn't stick around a lot more people would have died.Originally posted by khushal View PostHim and Gulbadeen were both power hungary and wretched. Isma'il Khan definitely had decency, but he's also in Iran's left pocket. but yeah, he had decency to compared to others.

The irony is that Ismail Khan was enforcing basically the same "draconian" laws in his region that the Taliban were enforcing. Maybe that's why his region was so peaceful compared to other regions.Originally posted by Iblis_Efreetzai View PostIsma'il Khan definitely had decency, but he's also in Iran's left pocket. but yeah, he had decency to compared to others.

Same with Rabbani's government before they got kicked out of Kabul.Originally posted by khushal View PostThe irony is that Ismail Khan was enforcing basically the same "draconian" laws in his region that the Taliban were enforcing. But Massoud was smart enough to re-brand himself a pro-democracy, humble revolutionary to gain support from the extremely stupid people who make decisions in the West.

I don't think that's "entirely" true. Ismai'l Khan allowed technology and commerce, there were television programs and entertainment. He was just stringent when it came to moral violations like drinking or the like. He also seemingly encouraged schools and education without any undue interference or hampering.Originally posted by khushal View PostThe irony is that Ismail Khan was enforcing basically the same "draconian" laws in his region that the Taliban were enforcing.
