Pakistan Census 2017 (Pashtun Population)
Below is the approximate Pashtun population of Pakistan. The population of FATA has been grossly understated in Census 2017 (IDPs during operation in South Waziristan exceeded 1.5 million). According to my calculation the population of FATA has to be around 8-10 million. Furthermore, the percentage in my estimation of Pashtuns in non-Pashtun areas has also been very conservative, however, i am of the opinion that the below numbers give us some idea of the population of Pashtuns in Pakistan.

I have come across many studies that puts Pashtun population solely in Karachi at around 7 million. Furthermore, in case of Punjab, there is Pashtun indigenous population in Attock and Mianwali district, in addition to the migration of Pashtuns to major cities of Punjab due to economic reasons. Finally, war on terror has pushed many pashtuns to Sindh and Punjab which has to be considered.

        Ironhide these figures appear reasonable.
7 million Pashtuns in Karachi is an overestimation in my opinion. Can you share the sources from where you got this '7 million' fact?

They have not written the percentage correctly. They meant to write 99% , 95% etc but wrote 0.99 , 0.95.

Edit: Thats actually pretty obvious , I'm sure you mean something else. But the percentages look correct too.

No it represents pashto speakers only.. If we include genetic pashtun..than we have to include tareens, jadoons, etc of hazara, kakakhels, Niazies, Durranies etc of Punjab and almost 20-25 percent of Muhajirs that claim pathan decent. we will be pushing the numbers pretty high and they become irrelevant.

The sad part in this census is that there was gross under estimation of pashtuns in FATA. when armies own data shows 1.2 million IDPs from south waziristan alone during army operation there, not including those who stayed, or went to there families and didnt register or went to Afghanistan during war.

Can't say for sure but the 7 million figure does seem inflated. This article just says 'according to some estimates' without giving reference of a reliable survey.

Have you ever visited Karachi? What makes you think that number is inflated?

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I did my homework , and it seems that 7 million Pashtuns in Karachi is not an impossibility.
There are two figures for Karachi's total population , 14 mil and 24 mil.
The higher figure probably corresponds to the entire metropolitan area , and the lower numbers to the main city centre.

Obviously , if we assume that there are 7 million Pashtuns , then we are taking the 24 million figure , and that means Pashtuns constitute 30% of the total population.Which is kind of viable.

Pakistan was created by a Westernized Ismaili Indian with little input from its Pashtun population, who were fooled and lied to by Jinnah when he claimed that they'd preserve their autonomy. Pakistan continues to mistreat large portions of its Pashtun population, and sees them as outsiders rather than citizens.

But what would you expect from a guy who thinks his Pakistani-ism is more important than his Islam? Who knows if you're actually a Pashtun or not, it's not that important when you're a brainwashed nationalist in any case.
