Banning festivals which are not deemed as Islamic is pointless and oppressive. In Lahore they banned Basant, (also known as Vasanti in India). It's a tradition which existed many thousands of years, and a way for people to enjoy themselves. It has no negative impacts, same goes for Nauroz which is a vital part of the Perso-Iranian identity.

Why ban something when it doesn't affect anyone? Why not ban dog-fighting or animal cruelty? Why go for pre-Islamic festivals? Fascism at its best.

Worshipping doesn't harm anyone. Millions of people enjoy worshipping idols. Still, those who pronounce the Islamic testimony of faith are not suppose to worship idols. Same applies to religious festivals of idol worshippers.

Basant is loosely based on Vasant Panchami which would be thousands of years old since it involves the remembrance of Saraswati and Kama. Our Hindu brethren still practice this, we don't anymore.

People wouldn't be killed it Basant was restricted to people's homes. Problem is people doing it outside on the streets, sure, ban that. But don't ban the whole thing.

Dogfighting happens in Pakistan. It's not pre-Islamic, or religious even... it's just a jaahil practice. I'm just saying there should be more emphasis on banning real **** which matters, like honour killing, domestic abuse, minority persecution as opposed to Kite Flying.

Except for a Muslim, regardless if he's Persian or Arab, idol worship doesn't even come close to Nauroz. Even Chaharshanbeh Soori isn't idol worship.

I am definitely not like those Tehrani kunis white wannabes. I am not anti-Islam nor I hold wet dreams about some fake old times when we were all pure Zoroastrians. I believe in Islamic values and I want my country to stick with those values. What I reject is those Muslim bigots who want to chop off hands, stone women to death or impose a hardcore regime run by uneducated akhoonds. Our old "Afghan Islam" was good: not liberal neither radical. Just conservative values. My parents taught me that kind of Islam. Since you are Kabuli I bet your parents taught you some similar values.

Basant mean spring, same as vasant in sanskrit because both have same origin. Other then that basant in Pakistan is associated with kite flying which started in 19th century around Lahore. People didn't fly kites thousands of years ago. lol

Personally I think proper basant will come back from next year.
