typical Pakistani state propaganda, lol @ 3%. How can anyone who has any idea about Afghanistan believe that? I urge Pakistanis to stop getting their info from ISPR and Pakistani media or old outdated data based on a Vice channel documentary from years ago.

I had to correct this Bhittani guy on PDF when he brought up this lie a few days ago with latest figures which show Pashtuns make up 44% of the army foot soldiers and most of the elites along Tajiks.
It is not other's if some Pashtuns would rather join Taliban. Once Taliban issue is resolved this percentage will go even higher.

Dostum is nothinv more than a local warlord and his influence is limited among his party ofJunbish supporters, similar to MQM in Pakistan.

Read the "Ethnic and patronage fissures..." portion of Marwat's source. It says clearly that ISAF had to pressurize ANA to recruit more non-Tajiks. This was recent (2012). The reason ISAF gets that kind of leverage is because they're essentially funding the ANA (Also in the article).

You do realize Southern Pashtuns are generally more rural? obviously they're going to be less likely to join the ANA.
Elaborate. So what if they're rural? To me that justifies joining the army, more so than not.

Pakis so desperate knowing there has not been a single real Pashtun leader in Paki history, Ayub Khan was a Hindkowan btw so don't try to bring him up.
Why do you say this? He was Pashtun. You realize that many Pashtuns live in Hindkowan areas, and started speaking the language many generations ago, right? You realize many even live(d) in Punjab (for example Imran Khan) and started speaking the local language there, too? Ghulam Ishaq Khan was Pashtun and he was a President.

People generally (in Pak, at least) don't have a reason to fabricate their ethnicity. I haven't met a Punjabi who's embarrassed about being a Punjabi. Same for almost any other ethnicity, including Hindkowans. Who the hell lies about their ethnicity? lmao. The fact that this is such a topic on this website is kinda funny. Real life isn't the internet. It especially wasn't back then.

Now, by leader, do you mean the Prime Minister only? Do you include high ranking politicians in this?

Also, this point need not be left ignored... Pakhtuns are a minority in Pakistan. We have an excuse. Yes, things can improve for us. There's no doubt about that.

Herr herr... lerrl. Musharraf wasn't that far off the mark. Even the article Marwat posted said, as recently as 2008, 70% of ANA were ethnic Tajiks. The Vice documentary probably was true for the period it was released at. The guy in the video said 3%. Let's remember, countries like Afg, Pak, Ind, etc are corrupt as ****. What's to stop a Tajik from filling the right check box in the ANA questionnaire? The fact that they're picking Northern Afg recruits should add to this doubt. I'm willing to give this point a pass, and ignore any possibility of dubious reporting. My point is, when did Musharraf say this? If he said this almost 10 years ago, don't "LOL" so hard.

This is a fair point. In and of itself, having slightly more Tajiks, relative to the population, isn't an issue. It also seems like things are a lot better now. The Vice documentary is probably a few years dated, plus Marwat's article showed ISAF essentially forcing ANA to recruit Pashtuns. So the number today seems like it's probably closer to 40%+.

Pashtuns are not oppressed in Afghanistan. Our current president is Pashtun. Our defense minister is Pashtun. Our national anthem is in Pashto. Non Pashtun Afghans are in Pashtun provinces fighting and dying in order to protect their Pashtun brothers and so on. Please stop spreading lies.
There's a high degree of corruption, and many of them are involved in the drug trade. Those regions experience greater conflict with the Afghan forces and "Taliban".

Since ANA was actually made up of northern alliances, and pashtun was an actually target, tajik dominated fully, but with time it everyone got their fare share. American are not idiots, to leave this kind of ethnic gap

Any statement a Pakistani makes about Afghanistan automatically becomes void unless proven otherwise.

The ANA is a joke whether its Tajik or Pashtun majority. There are many independent militias funded by foreign govs running around all over the country preying on the people.
