  • 12 'terrorists' killed in Khyber Agency air strikes

    LANDI KOTAL: Fresh air raids in Khyber Agency’s Tirah valley killed at least twelve suspected terrorists, and destroyed dozens of their hideouts, sources said on Sunday.

    Following a tip-off, jet fighters bombed the hideouts in the early hours of the day.

    Tirah air blitz kills seven terrorists

    Although the security forces did not release a statement, local sources confirmed the bombing, as well as the terrorists’ death toll.

    The military has cleansed the erstwhile militant-infested valley in two operations, codenamed Khyber-I and Khyber-II. In August, the army mounted another offensive, Khyber-III, to target terrorists holed up in the area beyond Tirah valley, right on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

      Pakistani army has numerous times claimed that they have cleared Tirah yet PAF bombardments are still taking place there.........and the valley is not even bordering Afghanistan.

      North Waziristan is mostly flat land, it was easy to "conquer it" by simply demolishing the towns and villages (while they took two years in clearing hilly Shawal valley). Tirah is a different story, its not an easy terrain like North Waziristan and Pakistani army is evidently struggling here. Conquering terrain like Tirah requires lot of sacrifices and 'martyrdoms' which Pakistani soldiers are not ready to embrace.......whenever Pakistani army suffers great losses in Tirah, they immediately pull out from the region.....cowardice, no "jazba-i-shahadat" at all

          Hundreds have lost their lives while killing thousands of terrorists. World is shocked at success of zarb-e-azb, now they are sending their soldiers to get trained in Pakistan. Obviously unless we build wall, mine the border its impossible to stop cross border terrorist movement. As long as they are being killed after crossing from Afghan side then it doesn't matter.

            They are ex-boyfriends of your army . Most of them (Nek Muhammad, Abdullah Mehsud, Baitullah etc) were sent by ISI to Afghanistan to help Taliban against Ahmad Shah Mahsood in late 90s. Others were from Kashmir 'Jihad'. Former assets and tissue papers of ISI are getting BBqed.

              Samandri makes a great point; The Pak-defense cyber engagement team keeps claiming zarb-e-azab was a success. but they're still there fighting. This is not success. More Pak soldiers died than in the entire first Indo-Pak war; that says something. As for number Pak soldiers killed; they claim 35,000, but no independent confirmation of this has been revealed.

              What this seems to indicate is Pakistan is good at narrative building; bad at demonstrating.

              Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

                80-90% decrease in terrorist attacks since 2013, claim verified by USA and western countries. Everyone in Pakistan knows attacks are much less common then in 2013. Its not just propaganda. Raheel Sharif is about to lead army of muslim world to eliminate terrorism once for all. I just hope Afghanistan is left as it is since civil war and terrorism are two different things.

                  They are fighting in small pockets because there is no fencing or wall to prevent more rats coming in from Afghanistan . Pakistan from 1947-2016 has always been a peaceful country . 2008-2014 was bad though in places like FATA and Balochistan .

                  Pakistan/Afghanistan
                  Turkey/Syria
                  Saudi Arabia/Yemen

                  Regional powers which have unstable neighbours . Regional power intervenes and they get a blowback for few years and then it finishes . In our case the blowback is almost over and it has begun for Turkey and Saudi Arabia .

                      This is narrative pandering; you've already agreed that these terrorists are products of ISI maneuvering; so it's not from unstable neighbors at all. It's blowback from Pakistan's strategy, which you just implied here even.

                      There have been 22 terrorist attacks in Pakistan in 2016 alone. and 21 in 2015

                      That's an increase. If this is what Pakistan means by wiping out terrorists; they're doing it wrong, not only that but they have reach to almost every part of Pakistan. .....the ISI created terrorists ...are running amok.

                      Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

                        That isn't saying much since there were 22 terrorist acts in Pakistan this year alone. That's a lot.

                          Thats not how it works . Check out South Asian terrorism portal . Overall civilian deaths are half of what it was in 2015 . Most of the attacks that happened this year have been limited to parts of Balochistan and a few in KP . Punjab and Sindh have seen very few attacks in a couple of years . Meanwhile Islamabad has had no civilian casuality/attack in 2-3 years now (Thats even better than western cities where attacks happen regularly ) .

                          France has had 4-5 attacks but 500-600 people died in those attacks . Meanwhile Pakistan had 20ish but lesser people died due to the attacks being low in intensity .

                            I counted 397 this year alone in Pakistan; not sure where you're getting your numbers. but Pakistani bravado doesn't carry well under scrutiny.

                              Fatalities in Terrorist Violence in Pakistan 2003-2016

                              2006 = 608 Civilian casualties
                              2010 = 1796
                              2013 = 3000
                              2014 = 1700 ( The year operation Started )
                              2015 = 940
                              2016 = 603

                              2017 will put us on pre - 2005 level when there was little to no activity . 2016 has been a year of nothing but positive indicators . Take for Example International Tourism in Pakistan 2016 .

                              Number of foreign tourists in 214 dips by 5% - The Express Tribune

                              2010 = 900000 Visitors
                              2011 = 700000
                              2013 = 565K

                              2015 = 1.04 million and expected to rise to 1.7 million by 2025 .

                              Pakistan attracted 1.4 million tourists in 215 : World travel & Tourism council

                              2016 we had alot of them arriving here .

                              Then we have International Music artists returning to Pakistan . Akcent , Guns and Roses Guitarist , Grammy Nominees like DJ Diplo and even Edward Maya performing in a city like Peshawar (which borders FATA ) . This type of Buzz was only seen pre -2006 .
