    ‘Pakistan’s economy will collapse in the next 10 years’

    By Our CorrespondentPublished: November 23, 2016

    KARACHI: Education is linked with economic prosperity but the education sector in Sindh is underperforming despite the fact that Rs700 million of the province’s annual development budget has been allocated to the education sector, said Education Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar.

    “Pakistan’s economy is going to collapse like that of Greece’s in the next 10 years,” he warned. Dahar was addressing the inauguration ceremony of a conference, titled ‘International Conference on Transforming Economic Development: Policies and Strategies’, organised by the Applied Economics Research Centre (AERC) at the ICCBS, Karachi University on Tuesday. “Pakistan has been divided into haves and have-nots classes,” he said.

    Economic stability: ‘Reforms in agriculture sector will boost economy’

    Like other flourishing countries, Pakistan has to manage according to its own environment to achieve the international Sustainable Development Goals, he said.

    Pakistan is facing enormous challenges such as illiteracy, poverty, inequalities, corruption, energy and governance issues that have had a direct negative impact on the economic development and growth of the country, he pointed out.

    “Pakistan is heading towards a social and economic hurricane that will cause great damage,” said AERC director Prof Dr Samina Khalil, adding that the economic hurricane will sweep away much of the current economy and Pakistan’s assumptions about the future.

    The three-day conference aims to devise development policies and strategies for the transformation of the economy of Pakistan, explained Dr Khalil. It is providing a forum for discussion among renowned national and international academics, researchers, practitioners, policy makers and students, she said.

    ‘Roads and bridges no indicators of an emerging economy’

    Seconding the education minister, economist Dr Kaiser Bengali said that Pakistan has been divided into two classes, the haves and have-nots. “The country’s exports are being reduced as compared to imports, which have increased,” he said, pointing out that the deficit created from this difference between exports and imports is mounting up debts.

    Tension with India is extremely harmful for us, said Pakistan Institute of Development Economics vice-chancellor Dr Asad Zaman. “Pakistan needs to rethink and reconfigure trading patterns; self-sufficiency is the need of the hour,” said Zaman.

    A total of 32 research papers will be presented in the conference.

    The economy is just staying afloat because of aid from saudi, America and loan from IMF.

    If trump stops aid and saudi def will stop giving aid with their domestic situation, pak economy will only have china to turn to but will they be as benevolent?

        ^ The fact that the Afghan currency is higher than yours should indicate where our economy is or headed towards in near future.

          If you have a fake/corrupt economy built on glass, of course the glass will crack and break one day. I wonder why Paki nationalists are so stupid to even believe their economy is doing good. Looks like they dont even the basics of economics

            Lol what ? Ever studied economics ? Japanese and Indonesian Currency is also lower than Afghan rupee does that mean your economy is better than them ? Your economic growth is in negative these days compared to 5 % of ours .

            Report for Selected Countries and Subjects

            Afghanistan per capita

            2014 = $ 653
            2015 = $ 599
            2016 = $ 527
            2017 = $ 521

            That's what happens when economy is in negitive

                  indinesia is not next door to afghanistan. indonesia or china does not trade with afghanistan on the level that pakistan does. globally you can not compare two different currencies but regionally, you can.

                  and what economy are you talking about?? snatching people's children, turning them in to suicide bombers and destroying mosques by them?? that's the only functional production market you ****tards have.

                    You can't. Currency hardly matters . If it did Kuwait would be the most advanced economy in the world . Do you even know how dependant your country is on us? We trade $2.2 billion worth of goods to Afghanistan . Well the same economy that fed millions of your kind when you were here . Pakistan is investing $500 million in Afghanistan which includes alot of hospitals , schools and roads . Thousands of scholorships to afghans in universities like LUMS and IBA in Pakistan .

                    Well you abuse and call names all you want but that is exactly the reason why you guys are in such a messed up shape in the first place .

                      your pharmaceutical companies are well known for it's needle and chickpea filled capsules and tablets. you are not on good terms with india or afghanistan and the only other country that i can think of you doing trades with is china and let's not even start with that.

                      here is a clip of where and how your "economy" is built.

                      also, was there not a news clip of a janitor running a hospital somewhere in peshawar where hundreds of afghans are ripped off of their hard earned money after risking their lives and nearly being shot at the border for trying to transfer their family members for treatment?? might that be the economy bust that you are talking about here??

                        Most of your medicines are imported from Pakistan . I wonder why you guys import things from us in tune of billions ? We export $ 2.2 billion to afghanistan thats twice as much as all of your combined exports . If you hate us so much stop buying our cement , steel , medicines , food and what not .

                        thousands of Afghans come here for treatment . Agha khan one of the best hospitals in the region has a free treatment plan for afghans where your men come with their 10 kids and enjoy free treatment in a great hospital . Shaukat khanum in peshawar also has a free cancer treatment for afghans .

                        Just china really ? Never heard of iran gas pipeline ? its about to start . We just had FTA agreement with them . South korea , thailand , Iran , Turkey all have announced free trade with us . We are a big and important country . Renault and Audi just announced to build their assembly plants in Karachi . Nigeria just ordered JF 17 jets . I can go on and on here .

                        Educate yourself . As for China and CPEC thats just tip of the iceberg .

                            Isn't most of Pakistan's economy based on forreign Aid from USA?

                            Raheel Raza, a Canadian of Pakistani origin, argued the same. “Ever since the inception of Pakistan the United States has given Pakistan aid without which it cannot survive,” said Ms. Raza.
