So, this is some army post somewhere in the mountains of Waziristan. Three Punjabi soldiers are playing a little drama. One of the soldiers is wearing a female dress - called 'Gaarn Khut' in local vernacular and worn by married women of our Mahsud/Wazir tribes. The other two soldiers - fully dressed in uniforms and carrying weapons - first discovers a Waziristani 'terrorist' woman from a cave and then on 'thoroughly' frisking her, recover rocket propelled grenade from her possession. She is then made to dance to a hot Punjabi song!
Now this video is extremely offensive - no two opinions about it. It invokes the most hard, debase and ugly feelings amongst us - not the finest ones! But let us not be carried away by the feelings that it stirs amongst us. Let us do some academic analysis of what it means, what it symbolizes, what the actors in it want to convey. Is it merely an expression of the cheapest humor (the sense of which very unfortunately most appeals to Punjabi mind - as expressed through their media) or is it in itself a reaction to some very deep psychological hurt (that our Pashtun forefathers may have inflicted upon them in the past). What is it? Can someone help us do some psychoanalysis of these actors and their acts? What the rocket propelled grenade represent? What does the soldiers' physical frisking of the tribal woman mean (is it the expression of their unfulfilled desires or is it merely painting of our women as terrorists or possible suicide bombers)? What does it mean to ask the possible women terrorist to dance? Is it a form of punishment, it is the satisfaction of their manly lust, is it the expression of superiority, or is it the expression of extreme contempt? Please someone explain this to us.
