As someone who is from the Kandahar/Quetta region, who was in Kandahar city just a few weeks ago, I have to say that a substantial number of people, for whatever reason, are actually in favor of the Taliban so it is no surprise to me that the Taliban could win actually win lol and these days their policies are more relaxed towards things like music, drugs, internet, TV and even education so that they could attract even more liberal types to support them. You will see Taliban members now smoking weed and checking their Facebook.

Believe it or not, no matter what they do, there are people who will back them just because of their popular extremist ideology and tribal/village/family affiliation.

According to one view, the root cause is indeed America because Afghanistan was at peace until the Americans came. The explosions started when Americans invaded so no Americans = no explosions. That's why they blame America lol

Pashtuns identity was formed after Islam, let's say thanks to Islam. There is a reason you will not find any trace of non-muslim pashtun. Because being muslim and pashtun is same thing, one can't be one and not other.

So Afghan taliban being islamists doesn't mean they are no longer pan pashtunists
