You are confusing TTP with afghani Taliban, one was religious movement which is now dead after Zarb-Azb and other is ethnic warfare. TTP used to kill pashtuns and they didn't target any ethnicity in particular in Pakistan. People in KPK were easy target because close proximity to FATA.

But afghani taliban are completly different beast, they are pan pashtun nationalists along with islamists. They need justification for crimes against other afghani ethnic group like farsis and their version of Islam provide them just that. Killing some pashtuns on their way to Kabul doesn't mean anything. Point is Afghani soldiers desert to not fight Taliban, those soldiers are mostly pashtuns.

Even in 90's Afghani taliban refused demand from Paki pashtun leaders to accept durrand line as permanent border. And that's when Pakistan had most influence on Afghan taliban yet they didn't care.

Most of their kills are fellow Pashtuns from Pashtun majority regions. Kandahar and Nangarhar have been a lot more dangerous than Badakhshan and Takhar for that reason. This is really such a silly argument.

Pashtuns identity was formed after Islam, let's say thanks to Islam. There is a reason you will not find any trace of non-muslim pashtun. Because being muslim and pashtun is same thing, one can't be one and not other.

As someone who is from the Kandahar/Quetta region, who was in Kandahar city just a few weeks ago, I have to say that a substantial number of people, for whatever reason, are actually in favor of the Taliban so it is no surprise to me that the Taliban could win actually win lol and these days their policies are more relaxed towards things like music, drugs, internet, TV and even education so that they could attract even more liberal types to support them. You will see Taliban members now smoking weed and checking their Facebook.
