My question is what will be the future of Pakistani Pashtuns. If we look at the social, political, linguistic, economical structure in Pakistan, then one can conclude that the future of Pashto in Pakistan is dramatically in decline. The reason is the fact that Pakistan is a country that does not support minorities nor is it cultural flexible.
Pakistan's national language is Urdu and English. And the government does not have any program to support any local language in the provinces. This means that either the Pashtuns modernize and adapt Urdu as its first language, or stay illiterate and poor.
Even now one can see that most Pashtuns who have been through the educational system in Pakistan, have seen a great decline in their Pashto vocabulary. Either they completely adapted Urdu, or there is a heavy mixing of Pashto with Urdu and English.
Pashto isn't taught in schools in Pakistan, and no; having one lesson in third grade isn't considered Pashto education. So if the situation is already so dire, imagine how the situation will look like in a decade to two.
So what I really want to know is how Pashtuns in Pakistan feel about this. Do you guys ever think about it, or is the Pashto language just not important for you?
