  • Islamism: between Utopism and Reality

The 20th gave birth to an ideology which is perceived as the most orthodox and conservative strand of Islamic thought.

Islamism, as it is known today, is the idea that if we implement Islam in all aspects of human life, all social problems will cease to exist.

This idea is in essence a variation of Socialism, nationalism,, zionism nazism, libertarianism and other Western Utopist ideologies.

All these ideologies claim to know the answer to all ills of society. They all believe that if their ideas are implemented and accepted by all, the world will become like paradise.

Yet, none of them have achieved what they desire. The reason why they have failed is because they like ignore complexity. Complexity is the reason why humanity has always suffered from poverty, hunger, diseases, war, greed, disasters etc. Human beings are unable to avoid the complex nature of reality. By inventing totalitarian or utopist solutions, they can't solve to problem of complexity.

When Islamist face aversion, they adabt and maneuver around in order to create a faux reality where their ideas do appear to be working.

This is why they claim they are against secularism and democracy, but they still choose to participate in democratic and secular regimes as a political party.

The realistic approach to social complexity from an Islamic perspective starts with modesty and humility. Modesty and humility is when people acknowledge their weakness and lack of knowledge. sadly, modesty and humility is not a trademark of Islamism.

They don't like to admit that they don't have a solution. They believe, if they admit that they don't have the right answer, it somehow reflects upon Islam as a religion. They consider themselves as sole representatives of Islam. so if they fail, they assume, Islam has failed.

The truth is, Islam deals with ethics, metaphysics, theology, morality, law and other aspects of human life. Islam doesn't provide a formula to solve poverty, disease, hunger etc. Islam doesn't provide answers for complex scientific and technological issues.

Islam, as it is mentioned in Surah al Baqara, is essentially a guidance for the God fearing. It guides us to act morally and be just. It deals with certain aspects of law which stipulates justice in practice. Note more than that.

If Muslims accept Islam as their moral guidance, they can act morally and avoid deceiving themselves.

Islamism act against Islamic ethics and morality. They don't believe in the golden rule. They believe they can participate in evil and corrupt matters in order to achieve goodness. This is why they sit with their fat bellies in parliaments in Pakistan and Afghanistan claiming they are serving Allah.

Another example: back in early 90's during the civil war, Islamists in Kabul use to fire missiles into residential area's. When they were asked why they target civilians, they argued: if they die, it doesn't really matter. Because if they are Muslims, they will go to paradise, and if they are not, they will go to hell. They didn't bother thinking about the sin they were committing when they were deliberately killing people.

This is why Islamism as an ideology is not in line with Islam. Because in Islam, you can't commit injustice in order to achieve justice.

So in conclusion, Islamism not only utopic and unrealistic, it is also evil because it is against basic tenets of Islamic faith. It promotes immorality, sin and injustice.

"Islamism" isn't a thing. Its a broad term used by non Muslims to identify political Muslim's and not the non religious cultural Muslims they were used to dealing with in the past who didn't give them any problems. Under the umbrella of this term are groups like the Ikhwanis all the way to IS and everyone in between including the poor secular Arab guy who tried to run for city council close to where I live and was labeled an Islamist lol.

Democracy is a means to an ends for Ikhwanis in the modern era, not an attempt to capture power and all of the sudden abolish a system that brought them into power and introduce full blown Shariah. Its to reintroduce into society Islamic concepts which have slowly vanished through colonialism and secular leadership so that the future generations are more inclined to Islam and the eventual abolishment of secular systems will not seem like the world turning upside down like if it were done today.

I am mostly talking about the Egyptian brothers rather than the hezb's, jamats, or jamiats of Pakistan and Afghanistan or elsewhere who hopped onto an ideological bandwagon decades ago because it was popular but barely follow Islam.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

Those people are late by about 200 years. The time of mixing relligion with law and state is over. Its time to follow naturalistic law. The law that bring justice. Islamic law showed from the taliban rule to the saudies and IS to be unfair inhumane and not compatible with this time and age.

Yeah Afghanistan is a garden today with its secular leader and his fake Muslim advisors in a government where they haven't even revealed the voter counts a year after the fact because John Kerry was the one person who created this government and its anti constitutional system of a President and CEO

The secular government has no legitimacy as it tells its enemies to recognize its authority when the secular government is in violation of its own constitution.

Islamic law is only inhumane to the people who act inhumane. So you want to drink alcohol? too bad. You are a a man/woman and want to bone someone of your own gender? too bad. You want to steal and get off lightly? too bad. So on and so forth.

In Western parlance, Islamism is something different. I am talking about Muslim Brotherhood. They identify themselves as "Islamiyun". In Afghanistan they call themselves "Islampaal".

Democracy is a means to an ends for Ikhwanis in the modern era
Democracy isn't the only un-Islamic and unlawful thing they consider as merely "means". There are number of other things they claim to be against but they do participate and enjoin in activities.

That's why I said they believe, ends justify the means. Which is un-Islamic.

This is called gradualism. It is one of the core tenets of Islamist faith. They believe Islam can be injected in social, public and political life step by step. They think they represent Islam and the more of them there is in any government, organization, the more Islam there will be. They equate themselves as individuals to Islam as a religion.

The truth is, most of them live by un-Islamic principles. So more Ikhwanis in government doesn't mean gradually more Islam in society.

Besides, this idea is an exact contradiction of Islam. Qur'an teaches us two methods of social change: Dawah & Jihad. Political participation consists of lying, deceiving, compromising and all other sorts of immoral acts. So it can't possibly be Dawah or Jihad.

The reason a reason why people hate them so much in Egypt. Many Egyptians who are against the zionist Sisi are also against Ikhwanis. Because Ikhwanis lied, deceived, broke promises. They are depicted as victims of Sisi by Al Jazeera because al Jazeera is owned by Qataris who consider Ikwhanis as their political pawns.

Thruth is, the biggest ideologues of Ikhwanis don't even live in Egypt to face the consequence of their ideas. They live in fancy mansions in Qatar. They live in USA.

Islam in its true form promotes justice for all.

The modern "Islamists", particularly of the ISIS ilk believe mistakenly that the more extreme one is in matters - the more pious they are. Piety and obedience to Allah SWT is falsy attributed to how brutal and strict they are.

This was not the methodology of the Prophet SAWS and his companions RA. Islam says do not oppress and do not be oppressed.

Don't be fooled into thinking that modern extremists are a genuine reflection of Islam. The Prophet SAWS warned against extremism. Islam is a religion of the middle ground.

There is Dawah on the streets which achieves nothing on a national scale, or else England would be an Islamic super power by now with all the Dawah the brothers are doing there. So in Egypt you have Dawah which has been going on for half a century and Jihad is not an option unless the Muslims want to be wiped out.
