Today's problem is that money buys you the ideal Islamic ideology. That is why Saudi Arabia and Iran are the greatest threat to Islam and Muslim. One will kill you for not being purer than Muhammad's Islam, and the other will kill you for not being purer than Muhammad's blood.

People think there is some hidden struggle between religious and secular Pashtuns. That is laughable at best. The reality is that Pashtuns want peace. The resentment Taliban face now or the resentment the US coalition faced after 2001, is all due to war and chaos created by them.
Taliban didn't get welcomed back in 1996 because they had some superior ideological mindset or some super economic plans, they got welcomed because they ended the war. Today one will find the same people who welcomed Taliban back then to hate them to the death today.
In the end its all boils down to who bring chaos to the community, and today it is the Taliban.
Don't quote me or speak to me if you hate Afghanistan, you be ignored.

People with identity crisis will be ignored as well.

In other words Afghans, like everyone else, just want a peaceful life for themselves and their families and prosperity too.

                  P.S. Welcome back!

What then brother would explain the very existance of subversionists like Farhat Taj Andersen? Like Mohammad Taqi? Like Atmar? Like Olumi? Who created them? What sort of peaceful life do they prefer? One of drones and fire from above? Is that peace?

Those that deny the havoc wreaked by the secular religionist urban and rural divide that provided fuel for the 70s/80s conflict and has some underpinnings are tragically ignorant or purposefully obtuse for their own secondary gain and likely have never the watan

Ofcourse Pashtuns don't want Talibanisation but at the same time we don't want western values shoved down our throats which seems to be the favourite hobby of some western influenced individuals who seems to think they are being "Roshan fikr" and "pesh rafta" and following the western world is the way to go. We can take good from all sides, but we are PASHTUNS and everything has to be done according to our wishes, wether its the brand of Islam we follow or western values. Pashtuns can never be forced to do anything. We will choose our own path. This is the lesson everyone needs to learn, pashtuns are stubborn and will not easily change wether for good or bad. Some are trying to destroy the pashtun way of life in the name of religion and some in the name of democracy. They will all fail as history has proven.

                        Good and balanced post.
Dont you think that the solution is to take Islam as faith and spirituality,Pashtunwali as social and cultural code ,democracy with Jerga as political system ,market economy as economic system along with Philosophy, science, modern education and technology.

Its not as black and white as that. Everything is interconnected, your beliefs play a big role in shaping your world view wether right or wrong. Wether we like it or not we all have our biases and a world view shaped mostly by our surroundings so its not easy take away personal beliefs and biases from decision making when it comes to any kind of decision making. We need more wholesome approach to problems rather than looking at things from on narrow point of view. There is a famous example of an elephant in a dark room and 2 people go into the room to find out what is there and one grabs the leg of the elephant and says its a tree , other grabs the ears and says its a round plate. Ofoucrse both are wrong because they can't see the full picture and just know one part of the whole. In the same way a physician will look at a problem from his perspective and a so called spiritual person will see it as a spiritual problem. Neither is absolutely right as things are connected, they are two sides of the same coin, you can't seperate physical from spiritual etc. So I feel a more wholesome approach is better than looking at things from a narrow lense and that applies to everything in life.

exactly; this is why Western secularism cannot work in Islamic countries. They don't understand this fact. This is also why Taliban/Wahhabist ideology also doesn't work.

Blow-oh-oh-oh. Hahaha lol Without pussyfooting tell us if Taliban are indigenous to Pashtons then where does the ideology behind the Taliban and other extremist groups that sustains them comes from? Hu? Deobandi School, Barelvi and many others of the type, Paki state-funded mufties, and Paki State sponsored Mullahs? None of these are homegrown to Afghan or Pashtons. Afghan/Pashtons being a proud nation with history going back thousands of years do not need a religious identity. In other words the use of religion as a means for acquiring political power either in Afghanistan or in Pakistan.

I mostly agree, as a friend once said...hope we don't have to choice between Caitlyn Jenner and the culture she signify and that of Taliban. In this globalized world xenophobia, isolationism and centrifugal tendencies are not an option…we will be crashed due to our geographical location…just as our location made it a battle fields for the great powers who successively crushed our sovereignty. We are denied the status of a free and a sovereign nation first by the rivalry between the Tsars of Russia and the British India and then by communism vs. capitalism. We fought 3 bloody battles and hundreds of little skirmishes with the British and a political battle --- Khudai Khidmatgars against the same imperialist even though we were occupied…and what bitter punishment the imperialist has given us! Ah! Pakistan. First it snatch our lands, then it forcefully joined these lands with Punjab and spread the most uncivilized barbarism in the name of Jihad in our motherland killing and displacing generations after generations. What has become of our motherland is a pathetic story that deserves the sympathy of every sane and civilized person of the world. What the Arabs and Pakistanis did in the name of Islam is unpardonable.
