I seriously doubt ISIS will gain any popularity past Iraq. Iranians would never support it, and I fail to see how Afghans will. Afghanistan is not really religious per say, but extremely cultural. They wouldn't support an Arab caliph as their master. As always, Afghanistan is the land of anarchy (and hence its current state). A centralized government has never truly worked. The Monarchy failed, the communists failed, the Talibans failed, and the current government is failing. ISIS will too if it ever attempts an attack, which I doubt it will in the near future, as I think its influence won't make it past Iraq and into Iran.

Although your statement is true for Pashtuns as a whole; that isn't to say many of the greatly revered characters of Pashtun history were either allied with or bore allegiance to The Ottomans Caliphs (Mirwais Hotaki) or other regional powers.

ISIS' appeal is mainly for disenfranchised Sunni Arabs in Iraq (not so much Syria) and Rap Music loving Hypocrite European/North American migrants.
