Things will change slowly and steadily. Ashraf Ghani is a very good leader on paper for Afghanistan. He has clean hands and has never been involved in civil war or corruption. Give him time and see what happens. Slowly other will vanish as well. Before the election Fahim Marshall died of heart attack; A Nothern Alliance warlord, so time will wipe all of them away.

This is insulting that there are millions of Afghans who are working very honestly and are optimistic about there future, but the guys like ghumbasa comes and brings drug etc. and other negative reports to put Afghans Down. We are a nation of fighters. Most nation would have separated in pieces, but we are still standing! We love our country.

Without a doubt, there has been progress, and as a Pashtun it makes me very happy to see my people progressing.

But at the same time, there's actually been regression in some areas. Like the issue of drugs, for example. Or corruption, which many Afghans feel is the most serious issue their country faces. In both areas, things have gotten progressively worse for the past thirteen years or so. And human rights are practically non-existent.

There are honest people and groups out there that would make great leaders if they weren't completely marginalized (Malalai Joya, Ramazan Bashardost, members of the Solidarity Party of Afghanistan, etc.) I don't think war criminals and rapists had to be brought in to power to appease different tribes and ethnic groups or anything; Afghans want a bright future, and I do think they've rejected these guys from the past. Like I posted earlier, I think the main reason Afghanistan is in such a mess (apart from Pakistani interference) is the simple fact that there was no real change at all in the leadership after 2001. It's essentially the exact same people who completely destroyed Afghanistan and made conditions so bad that the Taliban were actually welcomed initially. Even absolute animals like Dostum are still in power, which is both baffling and infuriating.

I think Afghan forces and foreign troops need to be criticized for their human rights violations. I don't think doing so helps Pakistan or the Taliban or the Iranians, or whatever. It only makes sure that the current system in Afghanistan is just. If anything, the conditions shown in the documentary only make it easier for the Taliban to gain momentum, because more marginalization often means more radicalization.

I condemn state violence carried out in the name of the "WoT" in Pakistan, and I believe it only makes sense to do the same when it comes to Afghanistan too.

Yeah, but one side doing it doesn't justify the other side's crime. Everyone knows how bad the Taliban are, but not a lot of people know the truth about Western-backed Afghan security forces. I agree with 100%! But you need realize in real world it doesn't work that way. The groups that have potential to create violence will be accommodated. Plus they will be easily manipulated for other powers objective. Take Taliban as example, for 13 years they have used unimaginable crimes against humanity in order to be taken seriously as a group. As you know Mullah Omar and rest of gang feel like Allah the might has appoint him the commander chief of all faithful and whoever that oppose him is Allah enemy---you simply can’t reason with religious thugs—nor they care about what majority wants. Thus they must be put down—there is no other way. If violence ends I would think it will take at least 20-25 years to have what we had in 60s and 70s. But the good news is—things are moving in right direction, there is so what free media, there are good universities—not as same caliber as Kabul university was in 60 and 70s but still same standard as in region, and most important of all the people have learned the value of education—I have seen a shoe repairman in Jallalabad sending his children to private school so his children future will be different then his own.
