The Indian subontinent is a geographical location, not a political one. The map you posted shows the borders of South Asian countries, not the physical boundaries of the Indian plate, which much of Pakhtunkhwa is apart of which can be seen on all of the other maps and in the passages from books that have been named for you.

Go and learn what a plateau is and how to understand some basic geography.

The map attached below is from the Concise World Atlas which clearly shows that the boundary of the Indian plate cuts down through Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan from northeast to southwest from the Hindu kush down. The map from the atlas shows that the Sulaiman range is on the Indian plate and is roughly the boundary between the Indian subcontinent and the Iranian plate.

The Iranian plateau is further away from this range to the northwest.

The passages attached below from books mentioned before both confirm that the Sulaiman range is geographically in the Indian subcontinent (see underlined) and mark the boundary between the Indian plate and Eurasian plate.
