Hezb-i-Islami of Afghanistan (HIA) killed a Taliban member in central province of Maidan Wardak on Tuesday, officials said.
The killing of the militant, Qari Ahmad Shah, was linked to a dispute with the supporters of former premier, Gulbadin Hekmatyar, in the Tangi village of Nirkh district.
Governor's spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid, confirmed the death, saying the dispute between the insurgent groups had intensified in the province.
Qari Ahmad Shah, who belonged to the Hayat village, was an active Taliban member in Nirkh, said resident Karim.
The Taliban disarmed two HIA members a day earlier, and the shooting might be an act of revenge, he added.
Two weeks ago, clashes erupted between Taliban and HIA supporters in Sadmardi, Tokarak and Dadal areas, injuring three fighters.
Four Taliban fighters and one militant from Hizb-i-Islami Afghanistan were killed and another seven insurgents wounded in a fight between the two groups in central Maidan Wardak province on Monday morning, an official said.
The fight erupted in Tokrak, Dadil and Pirdado areas of Nirkh district at about 4:30am, the governor's spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Initial reports showed that four Taliban insurgents and an HIA fighter had been killed and seven from both sides wounded, he said.
A local resident, Asadullah, also confirmed the fighting, saying he saw two Taliban killed and another wounded. He had no information about HIA casualties.
He said a number of Taliban fighters had come from Chak district of the province in order to disarm HIA fighters in the area.
Both sides were using heavy and light weapons, he added.
Some families were also forced to flee their houses, he said.
A notorious Taliban commander, Mullah Qasim, was leading his fighters from Chak, Ahmadi, an HIA commander, said. Two Taliban fighters were killed and another two wounded he said, dismissing claims that his group had suffered any casualties.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, denied there was any fighting going on, saying the two parties had good relations.
He said the clash was probably a personal feud between two illegal armed groups.
Last week, a Taliban commander, Qari Ahmad Shah, was gunned down in the same area. HIA fighters were blamed for the assassination, but the group later rejected this.
ADDITIONAL REPORTS: 17 fighters killed HIA-Taliban clashes since yesterday.
