  • Preparation to Host Nowruz,

Afghanistan will be hosting Presidents, head of States, and other government officials from Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Albania, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Autonomous Region of Kurdistan (part of Iraq) and Georgia in Kabul to celebrate New Year (Nawruz) in March 2014.
More than 187 million people around the world celebrate Nowruz as the beginning of the New Year and it has been celebrated for over 3,000 years in Central Asia, Caucasus, Balkans, Black Sea Basin, Middle East and other regions.
Nowruz plays a significant role in strengthening ties among people based on mutual respect and the ideals of peace and good neighborliness.
In 2010, the United Nations General Assembly declared March 21st as the International Day of Nowruz.
How do you evaluate culture ties of Afghanistan with neighboring countries?

    Wrong forum.

The "good people" here at PF do not celebrate or condone any pagan Iranian activities.
    Please direct yourself to www.tajikam.com

    Thank you.

The Wakhi (Khikwor) people of Hunza/Gojal may celebrate it because they are Pamiri (mountain Tajik) and their culture is similar to that of other Tajiks and Persians, particularly those from Badakhshan.

Even Tajiks from China (the Sarikuli people of Taxkorgan, etc. and also Wakhi people who live across the border in Xinjiang and also in Afghanistan) celebrate it but they do it in a different way compared to Tajiks from Afghanistan or Tajikistan and Persians from Iran. They are all Ismaili and are very liberal compared to Sunnis and Shias.

I don't know if Chitrali people celebrate it.

Its a pagan festival and celebrating or participating in pagan rituals and festivals is an act of apostasy. Mullah Ali Qari al Hanafi who was a classic era hanafi jurist from Herat explained why it is apostasy and how it is strictly prohibited. Still many fake Muslims celebrate it.

Thats great! I love Nowruz! Its a celebration of our zoroastrian roots! I love it!!

What is wrong with you, people? Nowruz is celebrated by many pashtuns in Afghanistan. If you don't agree with Nowruz, with persian calendar,.. then may I know which calendar is "ok" for our nationalist brothers? Arabic one? Westerner one? Which one?

Man I prefer Nawroz than your arab pagan rituals. Nowruz is one of the greatest "eid" in afghanistan and you can not change it. LOL

                1. In Islam, celebrating "our Zoroastrian roots" is not allowed.
Carrying on pre-Islamic heritage and traditions is not allowed in Islam and as a Pakistani/Latino, you don't see me celebrating Diwali or sacrificing little kids to Aztec deities.

                2. Show me some real Pashtuns from rural Afghanistan who celebrate it. There are none, only Persified Kabulis, etc. celebrate it.
Not one Pashtun from Paktia, etc. will ever celebrate this Iranian holiday and if you can show me one, I will believe you.

                3. Western calender for secular purposes, "Arabic" calender for religious purposes. The Persian calender is best left for Persia to use since Afghanistan is not the same as Iran.

You are a troll and I won't respond to you after this.

You are obviously detached from current situation in Afghanistan. Almost all major scholars and preachers across Afghanistan have launched a campaign against celebration of pagan festivals few years ago. Last year, only some pockets of fanatic pagans celebrated it, like those in inner city Kabul and those in Mazar. But in most parts of the country, including suburbs of Kabul, people abandoned nawroz festivities.

So it seems, paganism is vanishing from Afghanistan.

You might consider living in Iran. There it is quite a popular event.

The only Pashtuns I know who celebrate Nawroz are non-Muslims who are confused and ignorant of their own identity and heritage.

We as Purely Pashtun Taliban should only celebrate Arabic and Panjabi festivities.

Dude I was in kabul last Nowruz and most of kabulis celebrate it. I don't know whats the reality in rural pashtun areas but most of persianspeakers in afghanistan celebrate it.

BTW why should we reject our preislamic roots and praise your arabic pagan rituals? After all Islam is just a mix of preislamic-yahilia rituals with some teachings created by prophet muhammad.
