  • last thread for a while but how did arabs spread islam in afghanistan

apologies for so many threads tonight its Friday kind of bored and have ten billion questions to ask regarding Pashto history

Pakistanis and Indians ever were that tell their version of afghan history
    plus the media

not to many Pashtuns in the west to educate ppl on Pashtun history

another question how did the arabs spread islam to Pashtuns

did they conquer and recruit Pashtun soldiers and have them accept islam in order to serve in the military

or was it spread like how Christianity was spread by spain in latin America

was it spread by jobs if you wanted a good job you had to convert

This is a very tabu topic, if you talk about their savage behaviour towards Afghan/Pashtun people, many Wahabis like Shalamwar Kharsani will try to cut your tongue.

They conqured like every other savage (hellenise greeks, mongols, romans, later anglo saxons) in the region did. First they burned the universities, then schools, killed all educated people, raped women, sold women and children in mecca and medina bazaars, and rewritten history of many people in those area they conquered.
To Paradise, with Pakhto, I will go.

Actually this is an interesting question. I have not read history regarding Pashtuns and Islam.

But from my understanding of geography there lies Iran/Persia between Arab and Pashtun lands.

Maybe Islam spread from Iranians rather than Arabs??

Most of modern iranians, tajiks and pashtuns turned to Islam persian and persianzied turkic empires such as saffarids, samanians, ghorids and ghaznawids. Islam would be nothing without aryan people.

"The work of Iranians can be seen in every field of cultural endeavor, including Arabic poetry, to which poets of Iranian origin composing their poems in Arabic made a very significant contribution. In a sense, Iranian Islam is a second advent of Islam itself, a new Islam sometimes referred to as Islam-i Ajam. It was this Persian Islam, rather than the original Arab Islam, that was brought to new areas and new peoples: to the Turks, first in Central Asia and then in the Middle East in the country which came to be called Turkey, and of course to India. The Ottoman Turks brought a form of Iranian civilization to the walls of Vienna. [...] By the time of the great Mongol invasions of the thirteenth century, Iranian Islam had become not only an important component; it had become a dominant element in Islam itself, and for several centuries the main centers of Islamic have the power and civilization were in countries that were, if not Iranian, at least marked by Iranian civilization. [...] The center of the Islamic world was under Turkish and Persian states, both shaped by Iranian culture. [...] The major centers of Islam in the late medieval and early modern periods, the centers of both political and cultural power, such as India, Central Asia, Iran, Turkey, were all part of this Iranian civilization. Although much of it spoke various forms of Turkish, as well as other local languages, their classical and cultural language was Persian. Arabic was of course the language of scripture and law, but Persian was the language of poetry and literature".

I think you must look how Nuristanis were converted to Islam, not so long ago, this is how Islam was brought to Pashtuns.

not sure about pashtun areas, but in Sindh and Kerala, Arabs came in a very peaceful way. In fact their first purpose of coming was not Islam, but to make trade ties with India, because India was pretty rich. Kerala was the first place they landed.

Actually though, arabs even before Islam had trade ties with India, it goes thousands of years back

Except Sufism, Islam was spread with sword in the whole world including Pashtunland. Arabs when used to invade foreign lands, used to give three options, conversion to Islam, paying tax(jizya) or war. Most of the people converted because of fear, others fought wars and few accepted tax as the tax was very humiliating.

Pashtuns being people living in large tribes, converted collectively as conversion of one tribal member was equal to conversion of the whole tribe.

Islam or Islamism was in clash with many tenets of the original religion or way of life of Pashtuns, the Pashtunwali. This is why still today there is no complete symbiosis of Islamism and Pashtunwali.

This is the reason we have the common proverb that Pashto neem kufar dey.(Pashto(Pashtunwali) is half infidelity. Pashtuns have their music, art, dance, ceremonies, mythology etc which is not acceptable to Islamism.

Taliban for the first time are trying to convert Pashtuns fully to Islamism.

                    Common proverb in pashto?

                    never heard of it

and the rest of your post is simply an attempt to demonize Islam and Pashtuns.

The proverb has two versions which might have been heard by many Pashtuns.
Pashto neem kufar dey or Pashto neema musalmani da(Pashto is half Islam/Islamism)
This proverb has a sense if you consider Islam and Islamism the same. How can you tolerate Pashto music, dance, customs, marriage and other ceremonies, Pashtuns kochis with no purdah, deciding matters by Jerga not by Quran/hadith, Pashtun nationalism, no inheritance for women, traditions like swara, selling of daughters, murdering for honor and property etc .

If you do not accept my version of conversion of Pashtuns, then please enlighten us how Pashtuns were converted to Islam?

by bribes , a goat here , a horse there , some sheeps over there , than they left them alone , didnt impose too much of their culture on the people .

just switch of religion , values nearly were the same before , very puritanic. otherwise it would have not possible .

                          many say that
Pashtuns who oppose the Taliban claim that the Taliban is trying to destroy Pashtun
culture and make them more like arabs

many Persians are the same that use to support the shah of iran
claim islam is trying to destroy the Persian culture

Afghanistan was a bhuddhist and hindu country before the arabs invaded according to google

isn't the conversion to islam a huge change for Pashtuns from bhuddism and Hinduism

                              Pashtuns need more Pashtun historians

what was Pashtun culture and religion before invasion of the arabs

                              is it Buddhism and Hinduism

and aren't those two religions very different from islam

hence wouldn't Pashtun culture under Buddhism be very different then Pashtun culture under islam
