I don't think your explanation correctly defines nationalism.
You cannot create a state of mind. Nationalism have been there since the first human civilization. People have always preferred their own over others.

Europeans may have defined it, but it has always existed. It is like gravity always been there, but Europeans calculated it and explained it.

Also I think it is wrong to judge nationalism, just because some people may or may not have used it for their advantaged.

Artificial borders is also created by lack of nationalism. If borders is to be created according to nationalism, then it should be created along the line of linguistic or culture.
Don't quote me or speak to me if you hate Afghanistan, you be ignored.

Nationalism is a simple concept of promoting your culture and language. It has nothing to with war, politics etc. Of course it can have influence on it, but it isn't directly related to it.

Lets say you had two choices. You could promote your language or you could promote another random language. In this case of scenario wouldn't it be logical to promote your own? That is what nationalism basically is. Promoting your own language and culture in a situation of choice.
loving your language or preserving it has nothing to do with nationalism.
your explaination is wrong and pashtuns dont eed to reduce themselves to ethnofascism.

      • Sure you can, they do it all the time, in the McCarthy era in the U.S. they created a "state of mind" to motivate people to the Government's agenda. There's nothing that precludes that from Nationalism.

Nationalism certainly didn't always exist, because people's identity cultural or otherwise were more fluid in the past. That's how Turks became Ghilzais and Hephtalites Abdalis and Persians Yusufzais.

Artificial borders were created by a lack of nationalism? Then how would you have a Nation, without those borders? your claim makes no sense. You need to review the actual meanings of these words.

The irony here is that the martyr of Pashtun Nationalism, general Taqat doesnt even speak pashto at home. His wife and children speak farsi. So how is nationalism about preserving your language when even those on the forefront of your cause dont speak pashto with their own children?

I wasn't talking about this guy. He isn't a nationalist to begin with. This guy is an open minded person who doesn't discriminate because of language and ethnicity. Which you yourself have pointed out.

Start quoting me or else I will over look your comment.

You cannot create a state of mind if that particular state of mind didn't exist to begin with. If anything they just ''awaken'' it.

What you said regarding Persians, Turks etc. becoming Pashtuns is ridiculous. According to what you said, then Pahstuns didn't exist before Turks, Persians etc. If that is true, then how can someone become something that didn't exist before hand... Well what you said regarding that hadn't anything to do with nationalism, so I let it slide and we can discuss that some other time.

Those borders were created by empires, not ''nations''.

Because like most Parchamis, he is ibn al waqt. He was a communist internationalist in the 80's until communism failed.

Now he is pashtun nationalist because etnocentrism and nationalism is how the current colonial power is controling the masses.

                            • @ DMS

I couldn't care less if you overlook my comment; YOU RESPONDED to me , remember?

What I said isn't ridiculous; it matches anthropology; there were no Explicit Pashtuns 1000 years ago. No evidence of Pashtun language and NO DEFINITIVE (I say Definitive because I know you Nationalists like using some ancient word that distantly sounds like "pashto" as your evidence no matter how nebulous that is) Different peoples from different Indo-Aryan ethnic groups merged together and became Pashtun. I realize Turks are not Indo-Aryan in language but in Central Asia most Turks are racially Indo-Aryan in origin. With Turkish Invaders, they brought with them the Tribes who would eventually become the Ghilzais

Yusufzais themselves trace their origin to a Tajik and Abdalis and Hepthalite connection matches their location since ABdalis are from Herat and Hephtalites had a citadel there.

It bothers you because like other Pashtun Nationalists, you want to perpatuate the Myth that Pashtuns are all connected by some single unified nation the same Parentage of Qais Abdur Rahim and his sons, or some other fairy tale that never happened.

The reality is most of Pashtun identify is a fabrication by Medieval Writers who suffered from feeling inferior when Mughals and other groups would go around bragging about their ancestors.

I didn't say "ALL" Tribal girls are like that you guys were deluding yourselves into believing that Pashtuns who live in Pashtun culture all live by higher moral codes. I posted that article to show you that even in Pashrun Tribal belt, the heart of Pashtun land , there are Pashtun girls who will run away with Punjabi because Pashtun culture is so intolerable, they want to run away and they're willing away to throw away their izzat to do it.
