Afganistán Insecure with U.S boots, says Karzai
Kabul, Dec 10 (Prensa Latina) Afghan President Hamid Karzai reiterated its decision to postpone the signing of a bilateral treaty with the United States to argue that foreign troops will only cause more insecurity in the civilian population. Unlike the Pentagons assertion that its presence will safeguard the stability of the Asian country, Karzai says the opposite and even that it threatens the entire region.
With 84,000 NATO troops in Afghanistan, two-thirds of U.S. population, the controversial bilateral agreement provides for the permanence of northern military beyond 2014, in which the withdrawal of occupant International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) is expected.
It also includes sections very difficult to accept, as immunity for U.S. soldiers who have committed punishable offenses under Afghan law and permission to raid houses when they want to
On 19 November last, the Afghan president said that the troops of the Pentagon disturb the order with its interference in the affairs of the local police and the army, and retain important supplies as a way to pressure the signing of the bilateral agreement.
The bilateral agreement is paramount for the Pentagon, as well as ensures the possibility of success in military or intelligence operations in the region.
For this reason, neighboring Iran rejects the realization of the covenant as expressed by a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which said that the agreement did not create a benefit for the Afghan government and the nation.
If the agreement goes through, the United States will keep nine permanent military bases in Afghanistan, which borders China, Pakistan, Iran and the former Soviet republics of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
