Soviets could have learned from English, i guess. That is a weak argument. Yes, they want to stay there, but its hard to hold on. This is how it always happens: Foreigners invade, Tajiks and Shias join Foreigners, Foreigners get defeated and Tajiks/Shias get screwed. Would have, could have, should have, . The result is written on the wall for the people who can see. They have shadow governors in many provinces, (i read this in one of european reports, i wish i had the link). I am not from afghanistan neither i am religeous, but i can understand politics and this is what i see.

Russians would send their troops down narrow passes up in the mountains all the way into core areas of Pashtuns.

Americans are very scared, always wearing armor and avoiding remote areas. They only get out of their vehicles when there are allot of civilians around.

If you are what i think you are. Can you please fix the demographic numbers of Pahstuns in Afghanistan and Pakistan. We both know that pashtuns are more than 60% of the Afghanistan's Population and they represent around 20% of Pakistan's population. Do that for me and you have gained a supporter .

Well i think, whatever i said was very clear. Russians didnt mind getting their hands dirty. Moreover, they had alot of central asians that they were able to export to afghnistan (Tajiks, Uzbeks in USSR etc) a luxury that americans do not have. American do send minorities such as balcks and hispanics but they still are accountable for loss of american lives. No i didnt say anything bad about women. I said its "the man behind the gun", but since now many armies have women as well. Hence, i included women in that saying aswell.

what is your opinion of syria?. i think just like in afghanistan, in syria minority (Alwaite) are ruling over sunni majority and have used chemical weapons. Now if muslim world does not have their own army what is worng with americans sorting out our trash?. The only advantage that americans can gain from it is to secure Israeli border, and the only one left would be hizboullah (Jordan and Saudi are already on american side). As far as energy route is concerned, that has already been secured by americans and syria doesnt have many oil/gas resources to speak off.
