how do you know what is a dari word and what is a pashto word? You have to know Pashto properly to know what is and what is not Pashto.

Plus, did ever occur to you that there are allot of farsiwans who speak Pashto and allot of Pashtuns from Wardak, Maiwan, Kabul and Shamali who speak in a different accent?

I am not generalizing and attacking all Pashtuns from Pashunkhwa. I was speaking about Pathans. That is, Pakistani who claims to be Pathan. I know quite allot of them. They actually think they are better than tribal Pashtuns because they have lost their true Pashtun identity.

      This is false Luffy,
      Here are the facts.
Some(not majority) of Pashtuns in Kabul have become persianized. This means that either they have lost their native tongue or know very little of it. This was more so in the past than now. Many Pashtuns have migrated to Kabul recently and those Pashtuns have actually strengthened Pashto as a spoken language in the city of Kabul.
Pashtuns outside of Kabul still speak Pashto even the ones in the north who are surrounded by farsiwan. On the flip side the farsiwans in place like Kandahar, Khost, Gardez, Jalalabad and other Pashtun cities speak Pashto fluently and some have even forgotten their own farsi language.

Believe it or not, Pashto is actually richer than Dari is. Dari has been influenced and uses Arabic loan words more than Pashto has been. Another fact is that farsi in Afghanistan is much richer than farsi in Iran or Tajikistan.

      • Haji Farid is from Shamali. I bet he speaks better Pashto than the entire population of Pathans of Pakistan.

Farsiwans do have greetings in their own language. But it is ascribed to zoroastrian faith.

I am talking about Pathans of Pashtunkhwa. Even the leaders of ANP can't count in Pashto.
Do you know what those greeting are and how are theose greeting ascribed to Zoroastrian faith?

It was something I can't remember any more. Back in 2006 I use to know a few Zoroastrians. They told me how to greet one another in original Persian. Can't remember it anymore.

tribal people are Pashtuns. Nobody is arguing here against them. It is the Pathan communities of Pekhawar and primarily the Yousefzai's who are the lion share of Pathan ethnicity.

Now i know that afghan pashtuns use afghan terms or most precisely ethnic afghan term for pashtuns and when pak pashtuns dont accept this term u call them Urdu ghulam but when pak pashtuns reply that u afghan pashtuns urselves are heavly influenced by persian, alot of of afghans deny it .
Now if i come to the real point the word afghan itself is a persian word and persians use to say it to anything related to pashtuns in the past(just befroe tajiks hazara and uzbek became afghans too).. pashtuns in afghanistan have even given a name(afghanistan) to their country on basis of persian language. Now i just wanted to ask so when indians use to call pashtuns pathans why u guys hate the word pathan but not hate the word afghan which is given by persians..
secondly dont u think that afghan pashtuns have been heavily influenced by farsi culture? and afghan pashtuns should not say things like urdu ghulam to pakistan pashtuns and not hate the word pathan too..

Before anybody answers its my humble rrequest that its just a question that came in my mind i dont mean to offend anybody
                  Thankyou
This is not a small question and not only in your mind. On this question depends the future of Pashtuns living on both sides of the border, their political, cultural, linguistic, educational and commercial future. This question is in my mind of many Pashtuns and should be in the mind of each and every one of 70 millions of Pashtuns throughout the world.

Some important points in this regard

                  1. Pashtuns in Afghanistan are becoming more loyal to the state of Afghanistan than their loyalty to Pashtunwali and Pashtunhood. The same is happening to Pashtuns in Pakistan.

This is natural because each state has to do propaganda of patriotism and nationalism which influence the citizens and their loyalties change. Still in Pakistan you will see more Pashtun nationalism and there exist Pashtun nationalist parties but in Afghanistan you may not find a single active Pashtun nationalist party. They talk of Afghanistan which include Pashtuns and non Pashtuns. Every citizen of Afghanistan is an Afghan including Tajiks, Uzbeks, Hazaras and Pashtuns.

                  2. The nomenclature or word or term Afghan is NOT a Pashto word because letter F does not exist in Pashto. There is not a single pure Pashto word with letter F. However historically Afghan and Pashtun are used synonymously. In Pakistan the land documents of Patwar mention Pashtuns as Afghans.

All Pashtuns are ethnic Afghans but all Pashtuns are not politically Afghans. A Pashtun citizen of Pakistan is ethnically Afghan but not Afghan as citizen of Afghanistan. But a Tajik is Afghan because he or she is the citizen of Afghanistan.

Similarly the word Pathan is also from other languages, most probably from Sanskrit which means dacoit, robber, kidnapper of children and is a derogatory word which should be totally avoided to be used for Pashtuns.

                  3. The only way Pashtuns in both countries can come together is through culture, language, history, commerce, education but Afghanistan will never want Pashtunistan as how they will abandon non Pashtuns for this ideal purpose and for Pakistan a state on the name of Pashtunistan will be a disaster which Pakistan will never allow.

                  4. Our common ground is Pashtunwali, Pashto language and culture. We should have many forums like this one where Pashtuns on both sides may interact creatively, educationally and may come together like two brothers living in two different houses. We can learn from the experiences of Germans, Arabs etc of the same racial stock and language but living in different countries.

Islam is faith, morality and worship(religion) NOT culture. How can you compare the culture of Indonesia with Somalia or Uzbekistan. All have different cultures but same religion. Religion is for supernatural, metaphysical and ethical aspects of life, nothing to do with culture, language, society, science, politics and economics.

Pakistan is the only country in the world born on the name of a religion but all other 58 Muslim countries are nation states. Now even in Pakistan the Pakistani nationalism is more important than talking of ideals like Pan Islam-ism and Umma. There is no Umma or Pan Islam in reality. All ideas.

                            • SK, Pashtuns in KP don't call each other Pataan, they call each other Pukhtoons, the same people that call us Pataans also call Pashtuns from Afghanistan 'Pataan' so you calling other Pashtuns the word Pataan is calling your own self a Pataan.

anp is just **** who doesnt even get 500000 votes out of 30 million pashtuns .. which clearly show how unpopular it is ..the time it won the elections was bacause of ppp and votes wree around 700000 ...they are big liers who show pakistani nationalism in front of mohajirs by calling them indian and not pakistani and show pashtun nationalism when they are talking to people of other provinces.
the explanation of word afghan was pretty awsome hope all the afghan pashtuns can understand that
