Mr Karzai is turning into another Shah Shuja. The purpose of this appointment is appease his new-found friends in the Punjabi establishment. Rumours are rife that now a days he is working with Punjabi generals as how to get the Durand Line accepted by Afghans/Pashtuns.

With due respect, may be your worries are facts dependent, however, Karzai realized that it is difficult to work for peace without consent of Pakistan here. As Pakistan has deep relation with Taliban, and Karzai has no other option as it became when Mullah beradar was arrested in Pakistan this year. He was actively involved with Afghan government in peace talk, however when Pakistan realized that things are going out of control, then Pakistan arrested him and broke the dialogue.
After this Karzai turned towards pakistan.
As far as Durand line is cocnerned, no one can have this courage to accept it. It will remain the same as long as it is destroyed and this line of hate is no more between pashtoons.
This will happen, as time is cruel and it decides as it will.
I am sure that this is coming soon, and no one will be there to stop this.

Toramana wrora, the Durand part of your comment seems to be speculative as nothing of this sort is being discussed by either Karzai or Pakistanis.
I believe Pakistan falls in our best interest verses Iran,Russia and the other central Asian nations.
Pakistan wants a friendly administration in Kabul whereas Iran,Russian and Tajik-Uzbek-Turkmen and all other STANS are against the very existence of Afghanistan and Pashtuns.

MillatNoorzai, my information is reliable ... And Karzai really is working on Durand Line to get it accepted as the International border ... However, I don't rule out he may be acting pro-actively i.e., to better position Pashtuns in the light of a possible civil war involving different ethnic groups of Afghanistan.

I guess Haqqani and Militant groups are what you call a Pakistani friendly govermment.

If you didnt know, Pakistan is also against the existance of a strong Pashtun nation, You think Pakistan has good interests for Afghanistan. As usual, Western nations will leave and Pakistan with its proxies will take over

Maseed bro,Pakistan paid us with the same coin, plz read the following:

Afghanistan was the only Muslim country who voted against the creation of Pakistan.Afghanistan called a GRAND/LOYA JIRGA in 1948 and 1951 asking for approval to launch a combat against its new born neighbor.Afghanistan sent a high level delegation in 1953 to U.S asking for their open support against Pakistan.Afghanistan started the Pashtunistan movement in 1955 which included harboring anti Pakistani elements, meddling on social, political and INTEL basis etc.
Afghanistan assured India of its strong support against Pakistan in 1965,if ever needed.
Afghanistan armed Baloch and Pashtun nationalists in 70s to subjugate Pakistani state.
After a constant threat posed by Afghanistan Pakistan decided to counter attack and they started training Masood,Rabbani and Hekmatyar in mid 70s till the present day Taliban.

I think its about time that the leadership of both countries have decided to forget previous contentions and unite on a common platform where the PRIMARY interests (not a compromise on Pashtunistan issue) of both countries are safe and served. This should be anticipated as a step towards calamity till the dust of invasion of the region by western powers settles down.

both are sunni dominant muslim countries. I would wish for peace between them . Besides afghanistan could use the port of gawadar or port qasim. Which is a mutual interest for both of the countries.
India and iran are working for their influence on afghanistan which wouldnt be good for pashtuns in any case. Iran would prefer to support shia hazaras or parsiwaans . While india would be in alliance with it . Like in past both of the countries supported northern alliance .

                          Agha ye Noorzai,

I think your assertion that an alliance with ISI/Pakistan by Pashtuns inside Afghanistan is to the mutual benefit of both sides is flawed. It will be a very one sided deal in favour of Pakistan.

Pakistan is looking to get a foothold in Afghanistan, yes...but the minute they do get a foothold through Pashtuns and Taliban, they will proceed to weaken Pashtuns internally (for obvious reasons) and force the Pashtuns towards a perpetual and destructive war against Tajiks, Hazaras etc. For Pashtuns who want a Loy-Afghanistan, this will be a defensive war since it is defending "Pashtun ground", it's not an offensive war towards creating Loy-Afghanistan.

Pakistan, and all the "stans" sorrounding Afg, know they cant win the pie that is Afghanistan all for themselves but they each want the largest share...

                            Fantastic Comment

Even though I dislike many Tajiks such as Padram and so but one thing I respect for the Tajik People is that they burnt down the Paakistani Embassy which led to Pakistan turning its guns on Ahmad Shah Masood the former ISI agent.

To allow Pakistan to enter into afghanistan will mean doom for Afghanistan and especially Pashtuns. Tajiks wouldnt give much of a damme since they have other things to do, same with Iran, but Pashtuns will be again forced to turn its guns on its own people to establish a so called Friendly government to Pakistan under barbaric laws while Secular Pakistanis such as hamid gul buy atif aslam albums for their children as Pashtuns crumble.

Again, I congradulate you on your gr8 comment.

I had a Tajik Friend in University, He spoke very good Pushto and he had the exact same views as me, plus he was from herat. Gr8 guy, I would always prefer a Tajik than a Punjabi but hey there are some Tajiks even on this forum who oppose Pashtun unity and prefer to side with Punjabis.

                            Kind Regards

Guys, do not let the cosmetic role of media to confuse you. Afghanistan is in far better position than it ever was. The war and politics in the region is in its very critical stage and one should anaylse things in the light of the past 9 years and the very strategic objectives of the current military escalation and the overall security situation. The political play in the Afghan polity was only a realisation in my view in winning the war and thus these changes that I'm glad people are realising and in a positive manner and even paying attention to the portfolio and background of these people.

Karzai is not leaving an inch to Panjabis or any one, but is only opting differnt appraoch which will not compromise on what I would consider Afghhanistan's vital sovereignty and security arrangement which also, luckily coincide with the interest of the super power and West. SO in this sense the Afghan govt is positioning itself where it thinks is due. And for the soft diplomacy towards Pakistan, it is not particulary bad thing, depending. One has to realilse that its the political context that gives the war its meaning and in my view, at this juncture we are far from these sorts of speculation and the situation is no where ripe for any political settlement in my view.

As for this Khidr guy, don't worry hagha hum tabey/fever newaley! Da kuma scenario che day bayanaway pa haghey ke ba de da toolo na worse of wee!

Afghanistan urges Pakistan to target terror groups
By Lynne O'Donnell (AFP) – 9 hours ago
KABUL — Afghanistan's national security adviser has called on the Pakistani government to "take serious measures" against Islamist groups launching attacks on Afghan targets from secure havens inside Pakistan.
Rangin Dadfar Spanta spoke to AFP in an interview a week after the Al-Jazeera television network said Afghan President Hamid Karzai had met the man who runs the Al-Qaeda-linked Haqqani network in talks mediated by Pakistan.
Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Taliban all deny any such meeting.
Spanta's comments signal an about-turn by the Afghan government after months of overtures to Islamabad in efforts to prompt Pakistan to deal with militant groups, including Al-Qaeda and the Taliban based along the Afghan border.
Spanta told AFP on Monday that Afghanistan had "tremendous evidence" that Pakistani authorities allowed Al-Qaeda and other terror organisations to operate on the country's soil and had presented it to Islamabad "many times".
Islamabad had failed to act against the groups based in Pakistan's tribal areas on the Afghan border, he told AFP.
"My expectation is that Pakistan after nine years -- because theoretically Pakistan is part of the anti-terror alliance -- they have to begin to take some serious measures against terrorism," he said.
"They have to hand over the leadership of the terrorist groups, they have to give a list of the people they have arrested and are holding in the detention centres in Pakistan.
"We have evidence that the terrorists from Pakistan are involved in daily attacks against our people and international 'jihadi' groups are active here. They have their base and sanctuaries behind our border and this is a serious problem.
"We have to address the menace of terrorism," Spanta said.
Karzai had been seen as trying to reach an arrangement with Pakistan -- possibly including a power-sharing deal with the Taliban -- that would help bring an end to the war in Afghanistan, now in its ninth year.
This was also seen as a way of giving Pakistan a stake in Afghanistan's future, despite broad opposition among the Afghan politicians and public.
Senior Pakistani military and intelligence officials had visited Kabul in recent months on goodwill visits, Spanta said.
"I hope we can begin a constructive dialogue with a serious agenda during the next meeting in Islamabad, or in Kabul... maybe next month," he said.
Spanta said Pakistan had failed to act against Al-Qaeda, the Afghan Taliban leadership known as the Quetta Shura, the Haqqani network, the minor Hekmatyar group, Hizb-u-Tahrir, as well as "Uzbek and Chechen terrorist groups".
"It is not a particular secret that the terrorists have sanctuaries in Pakistan, that they have training centres, that they have the possibility to come to Afghanistan, attack us and go back," said Spanta.
He denied that Karzai had met Sirajuddin Haqqani, who runs the Haqqani network which often launches attacks in Afghanistan, or the Taliban, "through mediation of Pakistan forces or otherwise".
Pakistani security officials indicated last month, however, that they were planning to help broker peace efforts in Afghanistan by acting as a bridge between the Kabul government and powerful Haqqani network.
