First of all you've got to have willing participants to build that common society. And by following the argument of needing a common language, well it could be argued that Pashto, itself could be the common language.

After all there are so many claimants to Pashtoon ancestary.

It wouldn't work though, would it?

Why? Because, anything shoved down your throat will make you puke.

Some might even include Urdu in that.

Yeah, supporting Mujahideen to fight Russians while Afghan government didn't even want it to. Supporting Taliban in Afghanistan while they cry their hearts out now when Taliban is behind their a$$ as well. Not giving a sh*t about what their government has done to our country since all they know is that Afghans came as 'refugees', and that also on the land which is stolen from them. Brotherhood, oh what a brotherhood!

LOL, and when we say that one language all ethnics of Afghanistan speak is Dari (Farsi), then it boils bloods of Pukhtoons of Pakistan.

Credere you are making zero sense. To have a lingua franca for communication purposes does not entail a nation. Baloch are a seperate nation, pashtuns are a seperate nation, and so on. What are you doing is mixing things up to fit your idea of pakistaniyath and I am sorry it is not viable. It has been tried many times before in other areas and it doesn`t work. They all have a different history, ethnic origin and language. You can`t just impose a language and then say `oh see we are a nation now..`please that is not logical or plausible let alone historically accurate.

and who is unwilling ? show me a source that says pashtun majority is threatened by "urdufication" ? they accept it and embrace just like i do

second there are certain criteria for choosing an official language, urdu isn't specific to any province or ethnicity and it is spoken in most of india, albeit in a different dialect but nontheless people are able to understand it..nothing is being shoved down your throat or anybody else's, a citizen of pakistan must know its official language and i dont see anyone puking over it.. Again these are your own insecurities, what baffles me most is that your country ( im assuming your Afghan ) is in ruins, rather than work to build it and unify your people all i see is the same ethnic agenda that has torn your country apart.

Credere I saw the video. The soldier did not mention issues between the army speaking to each other. As I told you before, majority of the Afghanistan people are bilingual or tri-lingual. This was never an issue in Afghanistan. He is talking about their own lack of knowledge while training them. You have to remember Afghanistan had an army and airforce which was created by itself....even the ranks are in pashto. So the problem isn`t language within the army. So I think you are missing the forest for the trees.

Second of all, actually pashtunkhwa pashtuns mind a lot when people say that. In fact, one of the things a pashtunkhwa pashtun will say to an Afghanistan pashtun is why is dari so dominant....so I don`t know where you got that bit of info from.

^ Just last week my Pekhawri colleague asked me why we Pukhtoons of Afghanistan celebrate Nawroz as Afghan new year and that we shouldn't encourage Tajiki culture in our country. Also he was critisizing my family's Pukhto for being 'Farsified' while he himself can't even count in Pukhto as he himself got no idea how Urdified his own Pukhto is!

And as if that wasn't enough, my other Pakistani Pukhtoon colleague, who doesn't speak a word of Pukhto himself, said he didn't expect Dari to be this dominant because they are immigrants and etcetera. When I asked him how come Indian Mohajirs (in other words, immigrants) managed to make their language Urdu so dominant while Punjabi's despite of being majority haven't been able to do the same, he got quiet. Thank God.

And of course, my Punjabi manager keep criticizing Afghanistan's ethical tension and talking about equal rights while his own government can't give more than a identity of a Sarhadwala to 'his' fellow Pukhtoons. Oh and about your video, just because an American says it it doesn't make that the possible truth. Every single Hazara and every single Uzbek can speak Dari, leaving with majority of Pukhtoons who also speak Dari. Especially because our army is mainly trained in Northern areas where pretty much every Pukhtoon speaks Dari.

yes he did, 2:47 i think he asked how many can explain the lesson to me in farsi. A bunch of guys raised they're hands while the others didnt similarly if he asks for another language its gonna be different..The problem is language atleast from a bystander's point of view it is, but lets say that language isn't a problem, disunity and the huge ethnic divide is a problem and thats the main problem.

I was at an afghan forum, where everybody was cheering on when someone posted a news of a blast in lahore..a guy asked "how many people died cuz im throwin a party tonight", point being individual opinions or interactions matter shouldnt be generalised to an extent where they become the basis for your argument. Im not an expert on what languages are spoken in Afghanistan, i merely pointed out the fact that on the basis of my observation there seem to be quite a few languages that are being spoken in Afghanistan and that might be a hurdle for regrouping and training ANA. The tajiks or uzbeks whatever you call them they hate Pakistan but still id rather see you all united, because thats the only way your going to be able to pull your country out of this mess.

Also that was the main training centre in Kabul, where the bulk of ANA is given basic training.

Jodigulla - and how should we react to this disunity? We all know that the enemies of the Pashtoon people thrive on Pashtoon disunity.

I don`t know why, at least the educated amongst us, resort to pettiness when we could be working to bridge our gaps. I guess Khushal Baba was right
Still Aurangzeb's malevolence hath not a whit diminished,
Though the curses of his father it before drew down. *

For this reason, also, no one can place dependence on him:
He is malignant and perfidious; a breaker of his word.

For this state of things, no other termination can be seen,
Than that the Mughals be annihilated, or the Afghāns undone.

If this, which is beheld, be the revolutions of destiny—
If in this be the will of the Almighty, the time is come.

Fate revolveth not in the same fashion at all times
Now ’tis propitious to the rose; now favourable to the thorn.

At a period so pregnant with honour and glory, as the present,
In what manner do these base and recreant Afghāns act? †

There is no deliverance in any thing, save the sword:
Afghāns, who nourish any other idea than this, are lost, indeed.

The Afghāns are far superior to the Mughals at the sword,
Were but the Afghāns, in intellect, a little discreet.

                            ^ Afsos BLS Jana,

Does it get any worse before it gets any better?

The trouble is, for Pashtoons in the region, what is worse than their abject poverty, corrupt leadership, poor social infrastructure and lack of opportunity? We are caught right in the grip terror - affected in every possible way - in what comes down to some massive political play off. Our cultural identity is being erroded - we know it and feel it and yet we are poweless.

The vultures around us watch on as we languish in misery and when we turn our guns and frustration on each other, their work is done.

Is it possible to love something so much that it hurts? I guess that's how I feel about Pashtoons sometimes.

Common pashtuns of both countries have brotherly feeling for each other and consider themselves as same people.
The problematic ones for unity are educated+modernized ones who consider tribalistic pashtuniyat as a backward thing.
Pashtun and afghan forums represent voices of pakhtun people ,non-pashtuns browse through these forums and take wrong impression about pashtuns from their over-reacted and hate material. i am concerned about such type of members there.

If you want to make pashtuns follow you, shout islam. Pashtuniyat is secondary to pashtuns.
Check the popularity of tablighi movement among pashtuns and interview many of them, u wil find that pashtun nationalism is absent in them. and the point of worry is that 80% of all tablighis are pashtuns.
Pakistan has to take support of islam for its survival, guilts are pashtuns who get used on the name of islam.

Really? I am a member on largest Afghan Forum on internet and I can't remember Pukhtoons of Afghanistan showed hatred towards of Pakistan? Some people try to fuel things up but majority of Pukhtoons have ALWAYS defended Pakistani Pukhtoons, and some even defend Pakistan. Stop lying to yourself.

And you think no Pakistani will ever say this on their Forums? I remember I went through this Pakistani Forum which was for Pakistani's in Holland and two Pukhtoons were arguing where especially one Punjabi kept insulting Afghans and Pukhtoons. I even saw some Pakistani's write whenever a bomb-blast was there in Afghanistan; 'Oh, only ten people died?' There we go, sort these people out first. And in Afghanistan way less languages is being spoken compared to Pakistan so if language was the case then Pakistani Army wouldn't have been tagged as strong.
