Because Pashtun rulers of the past 300 neglected Pashto and didnt invest in making Pashto a modern academic language.

The reason why Pashtuns are backwards is because he have a sick mentality where we never invest in our future. We only thinkg about our own belly and ego. We can't really sacrifice for our future.

I don't know what part of the world you are from, but humans have a choice. I can speak in Dutch, Dari, or Urdu if I want to. Pashto, unfortunately, is not widely used in academics because it's not as developed as Dari. Things are slowly changing, and it's an indisputable fact that Pashto is used throughout Afghanistan. It's influence is found in every aspect of Afghanistan. That, however, doesn't mean Dari should be neglected. Both are official languages, and you have a choice. In the South, people speak Pashto or Dari, but Pashto is far more dominant and preferred. In the North, people speak Dari or Pashto, but Dari is far more dominant. Given how the Northerners control most of the media, it's bound to be in Dari. That, however, doesn't nullify the fact that there are now thousands of websites in Pashto, plenty of rising of channels in Pashto, the majority of which stems from Afghanistan. So while things are improving, I agree there is plenty of room for improvement.

may be you also speak dari most of the time.
I speak many different languages. I, however, prefer and speak in Pashto. There is nothing wrong with Dari, or French, so let's not make it appear that way. Pashto indisputably needs improvement from lar and bar.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
