  • A united Pakistan and Afghanistan

Why don't you change the title, a united Pashtunkhwa with Afghanistan? The sindhis nor balochis would want to be a part of this. Also, we may be 50 million, but we will still be in a lot of problems. Remember that we Pashtuns in Pashtunkhwa just got a name change in 63 years, and we are still divided into four portions. Munga thabaah shu islamabad da laasa, nur Afghanistan walae gaer ko. We should be opting for our unity, let the rest of Pakistan go its own way.

Shlombiya ... this is part of the Pakistan grand design I think - to create a continous corridor of Muslim power stretching all the way to central Asia.

The problem is intent. It's not about Muslim Unity as such, no matter how many pan-Pakistanis dress this up. Its about settling scores with India and the worst thing is if this "greater-Pakistan" and India were to posture, then it would be Pashtoons on the frontline defending a state and fighting a war that we could hardly claim to be ours.

We need Pashtoon unification, but this proposal, as it stands, would not be a good idea.

Let us not forget we will lose whatever bit of political leverage we ever had. There is no real point in further pushing your people over the edge with proposals like these. I don't know why people even mention the entire Pakistan with the reunification, when it only pertains to Pashtun/Afghan areas. The areas of Panjab and Sindh has little to no connection with Afghanistan. In terms of media, culture, history they are building bonds with India. In the diaspora they are either part of MSAs or south asian clubs. You would be surprised to see their cultural affinities with each other. This probably explains why pashtuns rarely join the PSAs or South Asian orgs and rather build their own hujras and organizations. It is simply because there is nothing really to share with the other areas of Pakistan. We are Afghans/Pashtuns and they are south Asians.

What do you guys think about this?

Its working in the USA. Here in New York, due to me being born here. no one asks me if I am Afghan or anything. when they hear my accent they know its me.

Why do you disagree with my Idea Tor khan. Its obvious Pakistan is a FAILURE.
First of all, a lot who are "allergic" had pragmatic considerations. The more stabilized Afghanistan becomes, the less allergic it is. Second of all, uniting just for the sake of uniting when you want to incorporate bigger communities into Pashtuns doesn't help us. It actually defeats the purpose of unification. The point of unifying is to strengthen ourselves and give us the political edge. Also, Pashtuns from Pashtunkhwa would not have been allergic if: the political parties had properly pushed this idea and if people start pragmatically putting our unity into practise. By pragmatically I mean working on furthering stability in Pashtunkhwa and Afghanistan, improving trade, working on a joint Pashto language institution, by bringing pashtuns under a political platform. Once you get the real issues in line, unification becomes easier. Obviously no one is going to jump on it.

BTW when you say pashtuns of Pashtunkhwa, make a distinction, because some of them have family in high bureaucracy or army so they have other issues with Loy Afghanistan. I never said I represent every Pashtun there. Where did you get this idea from? I have given you my opinion of things. Many who say they are not Afghan, were not educated in their history. Because if they were, they would look at their Domicile and Identity cards and see Afghan written there. Don't fault me for someone else's ignorance. Oh and another thing, policy is not made by what the "majority think", it never has and never will.

To be honest, Pakistan has failed many of its people, not just Pashtoons, and that is another thread altogether. I actually love the land the rich tapestry of culture, craft etc. - take a bus or a train ride and you see and learn a lot.

My bias is that as a Pashtoon, I want to see our lot better. If Pashtoons in Pakistan are in dire straits, remember, this is because the Pashtoons in Afghanistan are in dire straits. The root causes and thus the solutions are linked and are not seperated so easily, so you are right we are one.

Pashtoons whom you meet who adopt a Pakistani identity over a Pashtoon one or an Afghan one, there are many reasons. Monetary, power, and an education/social system that has strengthened a Pakistani identity. A few of the assimiliated Pashtoons blend in easily, but for many, despite best efforts, they haven't achieved the education levels of the Panjab and the Hindustani Mohajirs, and remain, at best, cling-ons to the dream. Many ask if it is worth it.

It will improve the region and bring peace.
What do we get out of it? Now we are going to give up the only state we have with our identity and you want to get rid of that? Let us worry about our unity, let the south Asians worry about theirs. I don't know why you are clinging onto something that doesn't really help us.

It is the only state that has our identity on it, we shouldn't give it up. We should improve Afghanistan and Pashtunkhwa situation rather than opting for something else. Let us work on the tangible needs of the nation, and then unification will come later on. Giving up whatever little of our sovereignty for some weird sort of union doesn't help us. Hec, look at Pashtunkhwa, it has been 63 years and Pashtuns are still divided into 4 sections. Do you think FATA is kept as FATA, because of their "independence"? It is kept as FATA with FCR because it is a buffer zone and can be easily used and manipulated.

Punjab's current population exceeds 80 Million and Pashtuns are hardly 60 Million (even exaggerated).

Look BLS my idea was to get us Pashtuns as one.
Shlomblay FCR is frontier crimes regulation and it dates back to the times of the British. Basically it entails a cruel form of law, where the tribal agency is under the whim of the political agent, and collective punishment is legal. For one maseed or salarzae the entire tribe can be arrested or attacked. You can't have a political party functioning in FATA due to the fact that the political parties act has not been extended there. FATA is a buffer zone where the Pashtuns there are used and abused for someone else's strategic gains. Mashar in a pakistani interview said, "a pashtun like him can't enter FATA without the approval or know how of the political agent, so how is it that a bunch of chechens, panjabis and arabs were able to build military bases there.". That statement basically entails the situation of FATA.

And a punjabi will be in charge of the country.
85% of pakistan are non-pashtun, we will be out numbered even if the afghan pashtuns was with us.

Even though I'm not Pakhtun, I wish the very best for you guys to create Pakhtunkhwa, our forefathers died for our blood we need to honour then and unite otherwise Sher Shah Suri, Ahmed Shah Baba and countless other pakhtuns efforts were all in vain. I agree with BLS wrors words.
