The islamists had momentum during the daud regime and got stronger when the communists took over. The soviets invaded becasue their puppets were in danger in kabul. who cares about what brezenski says, the americans were supporting many organized groups agaisnt communists governments all over the world, but not all of them were in danger of being toppled.
