I can´t read anything wrong about Massoud. He was as a Mujaheddin on the payroll of Soviets enemies as all Mujaheddins so your heroes, including Taliban. But unlike you, he recognized his role in the war against Soviets. That´s why he fought against Hazaras, Uzbeks and Goboddinis who were slaves of Iran, Russia and Pakistan. Taliban was the best option for Afghanistan to make these thugs getting a hard teaching who the real enemies are. Your RAWA sisters with their ISI husbend just missuse information against him but you can not fool those who were there and saw the war. That´s why hundreds of books written about him while coward blind Mullah, the slave of ISI and Arabs is demonized, Goboddin called as a terrorist, Haqqani called as savages and other terrorists. Massoud´s men did not any suicide bombings. They did not flocked the people. They did not forbidde women and people to visit schools. Come on my coward friend behind PC, your ethnical hatred and jealousy on Farsiwans is not denieable. I feel it.
Listen You blind hate mongering idiot,
Try not to represent your farsiwan clan as morons. I know farsiwans and they are not as stupid as you. I have no hatred towards farsiwans. I said that masood and hekmatyar are equally responsible for the destruction of Kabul. One is a pashtun and the other is a tajik, how am I biased. It is you who is a tajik fascist who only hate bash on pashtuns only and praise the farsiwan criminals.

If he would be a Pashtun you would had already called him baba mellat. Diplomacy is not bringing foreigners to Afghanistan like Mullah Omar and the Paki monkies did. Nothing changed till today. The same people, Karzai, Khalilzad, Wardakis and all the rest of the sellouts bring the foreigners and you still call others as traitors. He was a legitime president or at least a candidate so he had to die.

I´m talking here with a tribalist without any logic.
Masood was a mass murderer and the biggest traitor to afghanistan amongst any of those mentioned. What makes you think he wasn't a mass murderer?

RAWA claims ISI are evil. You know, when ISI farts, hurricanes occur across the world.

If the deal was to protect his people, what about the Pashtun people? He let through the Soviets to massacre the East of Afghanistan. Great leader? No.

No. Massoud's strategy was, don't attack me, attack someone else, and I won't attack you.

He was a poor commander. He was a great backstabber of the majority of the population of Afghanistan.

A great commander would have held the Soviets off at the Panshir Valley easily.

i am sick of kabulis selling this guys pictures alongside the greats.
What makes you think he was great on the battlefield.
The guy was an idiot on the battlefield. He never really fought until the Taliban came in to the picture, and the only place he could stall the Taliban were in his hometown of Panjshir which the mountains were the defense vs the panjshiris themselves.

If your thinking he held Kabul against Hekmatyar, he couldnt hold it, it was completely destroyed under his administration. The only reason Hekmatyar couldnt take it was because he couldnt make the pashtun come tegether like Omar Hotak did when Kabul was taken in one hour without a fight. When you can take Kabul in one hour without a fight, thats called great on the battlefield, and the one your taking it from, is called an idiot on the battle field.

Roady is right he was a great backstabber. He backstabbed the Afghans and sold himself to every buyer on the market.

                    Nokia,

Bitterness aside, I have a question or series of them for my own learning's sake for you. I referred to a text Admin Khan sent me to regarding Mossoud but did not find the answer to my question there. Your well thought responses would be appreciated.

                    So

                    1) What is the general perception amongst Mossoud's group regarding Abdul Azzam?

                    2) Abdul Azzam's wife indicates that OBL and Abullah Azzam never were bitter toward each other, setting aside the possibility that the latter former was ever killed by the former (i.e. most have now accepted this as contrived). Meaning that the propaganda that OBL and Azzam were at loggerheads or some how opponents does not hold water when evidence is examined.

                    3) The lead up from question 1 and question 2 leads to this one which is: What are your thoughts on why Abdullah Azzam preferred Ahmad Shah Mossoud for being the imam/leader of Afghanistan? Its a well documented case and Azzam's son in law has given multitudes of interviews to that affect confirming the relationship between the two men.

                    4) If you accept the premise of 3, then how do you deal with the criticism that one of the biggest propagandas against the Pashtun people and the Mullah Omar specifically from farsiwaan is that they allowed a contingent of Arabs into Afghanistan for refuge and that with their backing (moral and financial) the civil wars tilted towards the Taliban ala a nexus with the ISI.

If we are to accept his premise, which I dont, then how does one deal with the fact that the lead root source, the Godfather, the theological basis for the Arabs own intervention derived from Abdullah Azzam and the links between the two men was sustained between families even after Azzam's death?

So then aren't the followers of Mossoud who hate the followers of Hekmetyaar or Omar Hotak acting like the pot calling the kettle black?

Also recall that Abdullah Azzam did not leave Pakistan... he was murdered there... so there can really be no basis for saying that he was a part of some sort of modernized theological Arab faction that simply was there to help and leave.

Your thoughts are appreciate with an emphasis on what you know regarding the general perception of Abdullah Azzam (a man who despite my readings I know less and less about each time I read a new source) and his relationship with Mossoud.

                    Thank you

The reason for Massoud to open the road to Kabul temporarily and from time to time was that Kabul was surrounded and there was lack of food and fuel in Kabul. His decision was based on what he thought would be best for the residents of Kabul.
This is one of the explanations given by Massoud defenders.

Some of you guys mix here a lot of things. One is that Azzam was not a terrorist but a Jihadist who preached a self-defence Jihad, not terrorism->Al-Qaida and Taliban and other groups.

OBL was invited by Northern Alliance but not to fight or keep the country into war but to intermediate between them and Taliban and at the end who was used, supported and backed by OBL? Northern Alliance or terrorist Pakis and their dogs? NA did not want him to stay in Afghanistan but Taliban´s blind prophet of terror hosted him as his guest. Hypocrite people you are. He was your terrorists and your masters. Don´t change here facts or don´t missinterprete them. Your behave just proves your ethnocentric view. No my god, no Farsiwan or Hazara or Pashai or Kamari or Uzbek or Nuristani sold the country or destroyed it because they were traitors. Just open a book and take a read. Self-defence and independence of every tribe plays today and played in the past a significant role. Just look to our current situation. The clown of Kabul call himself a lion and support centralism while majority want more provincial freedom. Who is the war monger? Karzai or those who ask for a better situation by letting everyside taking what they can take and what people want. Pashtuns want Taliban, their right. Hazaras want their own parliament, their right. Tajiks want more indenpendence and an own system in their iwn regions, their right, we want more independence and a better political role in Afghanistan, even if we make only 0.01% of the population. It is our right. It´s our country, the land of my ancestors otherwise at the end only one side will lose since majority are against Taliban and the current regime. Do not come up with talks like they did this and that bla bla bla. We know they did that and this but still people support them because they stand for the rights and demands of their own people as Taliban had this role in the 90s.

Not at all true. OBl was expelled from Sudan in 1996 under pressure from a coalition.

He made contact with Rabbani who invited him to Jalalabad. He made contact with the Taliban after this.

If Rabbani did not invite him there would have been no war. He would most likely have to be arrested with nowhere to go.

(The Taliban were also stupid for allying with him but they had their Pashtunwali code).
