I have a relative (50+ years old) who served with US Army for 3 years in Kunar. He personally doesn't like the Taliban, but he said the residents of Kunar likes them. My relative questioned countless of villagers on why they choose the Taliban over ISAF and they all say the same thing: we don't want your help, we just wanna live with our brothers (Taliban)

And for the people who call them cowards: most FOB's and fire bases in Kunar/Nuristan gets attacked daily. The mortars and RPG's stop once the attack helicopters fly around.
