No seperation, but protection. If the south, Kandahar-Hilmand region want the Taliban they can have them. That´s their right since Taliban is more a Pashtun movement than a national movement. If the eastern parts want Haqqani (I doubt it) they are free and it´s their right to have Haqqani ruling the region. I think that will be the political card of US. The south will be controlled by Taliban (of course handed by US to them) except some urban areas of Hilmand, maybe Lashkar-Gah. I read some weeks ago a similar article but I don´t know the link.

Who kill more, terrorists and insurgencies or Pakistan?

Official: Death toll climbs to 34 in Pakistan blast
        From Nasir Habib, CNN
        February 19, 2012 -- Updated 1146 GMT (1946 HKT)

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- The death toll climbed to 34 following an explosion Friday at a market in Pakistan's tribal region, a senior government official said Sunday.
The deaths occurred when a suicide bomber on a motorcycle drove into a crowded market in Parachinar, a town in the Kurrum Agency, said Sahibzada Anis Khan, a government official who oversees the region.
The blast wounded 42 people, said Shahab Ali Shah, a government official of the Kurram Agency, one of the seven districts of Pakistan's volatile tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
The suicide bomber struck when people gathered in the market after their Friday prayer, Shah said.

Official: Roadside bomb kills 2 soldiers in Pakistan
        By Nasir Habib, For CNN
        February 19, 2012 -- Updated 0811 GMT (1611 HKT)

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- A roadside bomb killed two soldiers and injured nine others in southwest Pakistan, one of two deadly incidents in the country targeting law and order personnel Sunday.
The attack took place in Dera Bugti, a district in the Balochistan province, when a paramilitary vehicle on a routine patrol struck the bomb, said Murtaza Baig, a spokesman for the paramilitary forces.
Militants in Balochistan, a province rich in natural gas, have been fighting Pakistani military forces for self-rule. For years, they have complained that the government has paid little attention to them and their economic needs.
Dera Bugti is home to four major gas fields and was once the operational base for rebel leader Nawab Akbar Bugti, who was killed in a military raid in 2006.
Paramilitary forces in the area are responsible for guarding natural gas installations that militants have frequently targeted in recent weeks.
Pakistan has said the militants in Balochistan do not have links to the Islamic hardliners who have launched assaults in other parts of the country.
In one such attack, six members of a pro-government militia were killed in a bomb blast in Khyber Agency, one of seven semiautonomous tribal agencies along the Afghan border.
A remotely detonated bomb killed the militia members as they were taking control of an area that had been a militant stronghold, said Khalid Mumtaz Kundi, a senior government official of the district.

Pakistan bomb kills six members of tribal militia
The bomb, in the lawless Khyber tribal district on the Afghan border, was planted by local militant group Lashkar-e-Islam, which is led by warlord Mangal Bagh, said local government official Khalid Mumtaz.

“It was a planted bomb and was detonated when the anti-militiamen reached a private checkpoint” run by the militants, who had deserted the checkpoint, Mumtaz told AFP.

Islamist bombers and gunmen have killed more than 4,800 people across Pakistan since government troops raided an extremist mosque in Islamabad in July 2007.

haha if it was that the case Taliban were smashed earlier like those 8000 terrorists under Dostum´s hands. US was a close ally of Taliban, supporting and financing them because of the central asian pipe line, India´s support was at the beginning working when Pak didn´t isolated NA commanders, and Russia did nothing. There was no logistic. The northern alliance had one helicopter, Taliban had tanks, helicopters and were supported by Pak army, secret service, military vihicles etc. Stop finding an excuse that did not exist. There was a Russian gun dealer who sold weapons to Taliban and Northern Alliance. Please show us some videos or whatever showing any of these countries supporting the NA. You have forgotten how taliban were destroyed without Pak and Arabs at the beginning and how they ran like chickens to Pakistan begging for money, support and military assistence.

              NokiaWnw,

Do you feel better after relaying your untrue and unrealistic assessment of the Northern Alliance here?

If the Northern Alliance cant even win with an alliance of over 50 well armed nations (including Pakistan support with crucial supply routes to the US and Northern Alliance), what is their excuse? Pakistan?

PAKI GHUNDAL.. we haven´t seen Northern Alliance fighting with US Russians Iranian and Indian army directly against Taliban as Taliban did with Arabs Pakis and other monkies. The think is that. The days changed and in a new war Taliban will be slaughterd like pigs in an islamic country because today the enemy can be seen clearly and their support were destroyed or killed. I recognized that Pakistan want to give up slwoly their support for these Taliban monkies since they realized if they want to realize some political demands they need to settle that with those who oppose Pakistan and Taliban. The question is how long Taliban gave you time to walk around not how any fraction fought whom and how. I want you hypocrite in Afghanistan in post 2014 if you have the guts and if you really believe in Islam and God and it´s prophets. We will see your hypcricy.

                  Lol

                  Afghanistan will remain one nation

What ever made you think anyone is going to accommodate Karzai or the Northern Alliance? They are mere tissue paper and amount to nothing at all in this so-called endgame if it can even be called that. Do you hear Karzai begging for talks with the Northern Alliance? No

You think people shake with fear when they hear Amurullah Saleh and Abdullah Abdullah issue threats? They couldn't fight their own war for the last ten years, what makes you think they suddenly will now?

Buddy, forget about Karzai. Even he knows he is merely just a puppet, he even said it himself in a CNN interview "I'm a puppet."

are u stupid or something? pakistans support of the taliban is obvious. while iran, india, russian, and american support of the NA is also obvious.

the US was the reason that the taliban were not recognized by the UN, they stilled recognized the rabbani government. not to mention the fact that the US put sanctions on the taliban.

russian military pilots flew in weapons to supply the northern alliance, as openly stated by the free'd russian pilots who were prisoners of the taliban. not to mention the fact that russia allowed the NA to operate out of their military airport in tajikistan.

17:07 of that video is proof of iran supplying the northern alliance.

from a new york times article in 1998

American officials and others say Mr. Massoud's rebel faction, perhaps the most formidable single group opposing the Taliban, now has a major supply center at an air base in neighboring Tajikistan, a former Soviet republic where some 20,000 Russian troops are stationed and where Moscow retains enormous influence.
From the air base, which they said was in Kulob, Tajikistan, weapons and other supplies are flown to Mr. Massoud's forces in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Russia and Uzbekistan, another former Soviet republic, are supporting a rebel group led by Abdul Rashid Dostum, a former Afghan Army general who has switched sides several times in his career.
Russian military instructors are also said to be working with the rebels, and one American official said Iranian personnel were also on the ground.
A former Russian intelligence officer said in an interview that Russia's intelligence services were also playing a covert role in Afghanistan on behalf of the rebels. The former officer, who has defected to the United States and has been resettled by the C.I.A., said Russia's foreign and military intelligence services have operatives working in northern Afghanistan with Mr. Massoud and General Dostum. The military intelligence service is responsible for at least some of the clandestine shipments to the rebels, he added.
''Massoud was one of the bitterest enemies of the Soviet Union, but the situation is now very clear,'' the Russian said. ''He is the lesser of two evils. The real fear of Moscow is that the fall of the northern alliance would boost fundamentalism into Central Asia and even into Russia itself.''
In addition to providing support to Mr. Massoud, Iran is also providing weapons, equipment and fuel to a Shiite Muslim rebel faction known as Hezb-i-Wahdat, analysts said.

so yeah. both the taliban and the NA were armed by foreigners. but if u are acting like the NA had no outside support, than u are an idiot. with communists, several mujahadin groups, support from uzbekistan, tajikistan, russia, iran, the US, india, the NA still got their asses handed to them by 1 group supported by only a couple of countries.

This is a foolish assumption to make and shows naive thinking. The Taliban if they succeed in taking kandahar and paktia would most certainly not just settle for that while they see warlords in the north such as Dostum and Atta roam free. They have scores to settle and there would almost certainly be another war between these groups. The Taliban want the whole of Afghanistan to be ruled by their interpretation of Sharia law and they wouldn't tolerate the north being all free and enjoying the what Taliban call immoral entertainment such as indian dramas, music and other activities. The aim of the Taliban is to bring sharia law to the muslim world not just Afghanistan. They want to use Afghanistan as a lanuching pad to spread their movement and what they consider as apostate regimes in central asia and paksitan. This is quite clear from their stance.

So what i see for the future of Afghanistan is an upcoming war and the defeat of the Taliban. There are too many countries who will back the opposition to the Talilban and Taliban won't be able to take the whole of AFghanistan as this would be detramental to the interests of Pakistan and other neighbouring countries. The Taliban will tired from a long war and their hardcore elements will be killed during that war the moderate elements will just compromise with the government in kabul for a role in government but eventually due to disagreements within the TAliban movements and their decline in morale will result in the decline and dissapearnce of the Taliban movement.
not even enemies of the taliban would admit that the afghan taliban have ambitions outside afghanistan, because they don't. there is no evidence to suggest that during their rule of afghanistan, they wished to export their vision beyond the countries borders. this is why there has always been a low laying animosity between the taliban and al queda, because they don't share the same goals. this is recorded by high level talibs, AQ members and bin ladens own son, not to mention western intel officials who all say that the talibans only focus has been afghanistan.

lets not forget that the military alliance of the worlds strongest nations have not been able to defeat the taliban in 10 years. all sides realize that the taliban won't be defeated, nor will the west. hence, there are peace talks. but if the taliban are able to stand the onslaught of the last 10 years, there is no way they will dissapear after 2014 when western forces are drawn down. if the most modern military's in the world, combined, can't get rid of the taliban, what chance does the afghan army have?

                          3) They consistently hail the glories of past accomplishments done either by the Mongols, the Persians, or True turks and claim them as their own.

Remember this post. Enshrine it, make it the wall paper, tattoo it onto the heads of the people, and then do the same with this thread.

How much do you sound like this monkey? How much of your rhetoric mirrors his in terms of his policy views for Afghanistan? He should be your litmus test for the percentage farsibaan in your personality. You talk about the one Afghanistan and about how free love flows from the lips of a Panjshiri to a Kandahari, and yet you somehow laugh at those that use the simple word "ummah." How amusing, dead bodies lie in front of you and you chant "Afghanistan Wahid Millet" and yet the term "ummah" is scoffed at. Isnt it hilarious that you tell a talib fighter that his Arab "brother" is no friend to him and wants him dead... and that the ummah is a wind mill being chased by Don Quixote, yet in the same breath you talk about how easy it is for Pashtuns to get brotherly love on the banks of the Amu Daryaa or Oxus. Perhaps the 1000 men in those containers ought to be resurrected and ask you whether they represent the irony in that criticism or not?

This fool is Amrullah Saleh incarnate and pretty much represents, lock, stock, and barrell the face of the Kabul regime and its members. Every pashtun here with even an ounce of pashto in him recognized this gorilla from a mile away. Yet there are some whose views are in a spectrum that approach his own so they were too embarassed to take him on.

Each time he is cornered by history... by the fact that the Pashtuns rendered the majority of the sacrifices in turning back the red russian tide from Afghanistan, he resorts to his favorite cop out "paki." Yet only one group of "pakis" appear to support his policy... I'll give you a hint, they wear little red hats and supported Russia when it killed our people.

For years and years emigre effeminate elite parents raised their kids with the repeated brain washing that all of their troubles came not at all from junkyard bordering the USSR that could not stand against it but allowed communism to permeate and percollate close to the borders of Afghanistan and usher Parcham and idiot Najib into power. Instead, the "Pakis" stole the trees, the "Pakis" dumped nuclear waste in Afghanistan, the "Pakis" were the reason that my cousin failed his algebra test, the "pakis" stole little Qumaanyaar's ice cream cone. Wahid Milletis chanted their hymns and linked hands with these NokiaWnW style skunks while forgetting that a generation or two before, those brothers across the line, those pure blooded Wazirs that freed Afghanistan twice from the Nokias are being attacked by the Nokias, their Pashtun Farsibaanized equivalents in the KPF, and unmanned planes day in and out. Brother is seperated from brother by idiocy.

Tell me, exactly how does Mr. Karzai differ from NokiaWnW in terms of his policy initiatives and explain to me how you feel comfortable with the fact that the only people NokiaWnW continuously finds common ground with here are the Soldat types and acolytes of Miss Farhat Taj Andersen??? They "thank" each other consistently and join together in mocking the true inheritor to the mantle of the world "Pashtun," that rural villager whose way of life is the ONLY link to our true culture and our past. US and NATO need Taliban. Why should they erase them? If they want destroying Taliban they will destroy their roots and centers. The Talib is a coward personality. Unlike other combatants in the world he has not an own uniform. He is clothed as a civilian. Assymetric war is difficult to win but it is winable. But America do not need to ''win'' that war directly. They can let Taliban come to them, so ANA. The positive thing is that the ANA has another and much better ties to the popualtion than US. However, US and NATO are in need of Taliban.

Yes, amongst them are the worst of humans who sell their own, but every now and then (I would like to think more often), amongst them rises the best of men who God endows with the unextinguishable ability to resist any TRUE threat to his autonomy or to his link to the One God.
Don´t worry my friend, tomorrow the sky and the ground over your heroes will be hotter than god´s hell ..don´t worry. Btw, my jewish priend, I am a Safi pashayeewar. You can keep your dreaming and die with them with 100 generation after you
