ghundal, i did suggest you do some research on slavery. this broadens the mind and gives you knowledge. africans enslaved africans. there could have been some african americans who were unable or unwilling to leave their post as a slave, where they may have at least been given security or had large families to support.
i have no guilt about what my ancestors did. why should i? guilt is a negative emotion or state of mind and is non productive.
i am considering that there are situations that we, who haven't had these experiences, such as being enslaved, are unable to judge. the diviseness of the non-'uncle toms' with the supposed 'uncle toms' within the african american community, disempowers them. just as the diviseness of the muslim religion and the pashtun community, disempowers you.

if a person has been captured, tortured, enslaved and misreated all his life, what do you expect? some peoples will is broken by these treatments. we don't know these peoples lives and pain.
some people on here make this 'uncle tom' type judgement on poor people in afghanistan, who join the army there, or become interpreters, while they sit in comfort in america ot somewhere else in the west. i find these judgements, when one doesn't know the others life situation, to be unjustified and selfish.

The story is fiction but very easily could be real.
I think Stowes intention was to show reality and the suffering to the Whites in the North who some were unaware and others simply did not care or turned a blind eye. It was to awaken their conscience.
