Pakistan Imran Khan rally draws tens of thousands

Tens of thousands of people have turned out at a rally in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi for former cricketer turned politician Imran Khan.
Mr Khan, who has been an established politician for many years but has struggled to win votes, has seen his support increase recently.
Correspondents say he has been riding a wave of disillusionment, particularly among the urban middle class.
The next national elections are scheduled for 2013.
'Potent power' The BBC's Aleem Maqbool, at the rally, says there were posters, banners and T-shirts espousing hope - clearly reminiscent of the sentiment that carried President Barack Obama to office in the US.
One supporter there told the BBC: "I'm highly optimistic that Imran Khan has the potent power to bring in change which we highly need because our country can't survive without a fair and just leadership.
The turnout in Karachi was large, given Mr Khan's traditional support base is in Punjab province
"It doesn't matter that he's a cricketer or something else. Whatever he is, he is not a diplomat, he is not a liar."
But our correspondent says that despite winning support from many disillusioned Pakistanis, Mr Khan still has a lot of work to do to clarify exactly what he stands for and whether he really does have the ability to lead the country out of its troubles.
The two main parties - the PPP and the PML-N - are still strongly entrenched and Mr Khan has yet to spell out the specific policies of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Movement for Justice) party.
One policy Mr Khan has won support for his opposition to US drone strikes on militants inside Pakistani territory.
He also argues that foreign aid is fuelling corruption and should be stopped.
Mr Khan has won over key defectors such as the PPP's Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Javed Hashmi of the PML-N.
The turnout in Karachi was large, given Mr Khan's traditional support base is in Punjab province.

Yeah, election promises!
If election promises were true, Pakistan would've become corruption-free ten times over by now.
Last I checked, Pakistan's budget deficit exceeds US$10 billion annually and the US helps bridge that gap. If my driver doesn't do exactly as I tell him to, he won't have enough money to feed his family.
Shehbaz Khana, why didn't you ask him why he stayed quiet about the 12th may incident throughout his speech? They bashed America, India and Zardari but they didn't utter a word against those who killed more Muslim Pakistanis in Karachi than America, India and Zardari put together. More than 1,500 die every year in MQM's target killings, most of them Pashtuns, yet Imran Khan didn't dare to say a word against Altaf because of their political reconciliation. He has sold out already."If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

In regards to Pakistan, ever since their cooperation and support for the US war and occupation of Afghanistan decreased, they haven't been getting aidOriginally posted by Levanaye Zalmaye View PostYeah, election promises!

When Pak refused to do Waziristan operation, US threatened to cut the so called aid
The aid is an overblown story. By supporting this war, Pakistan has caused more militancy and has lost billions and billions
It's wishful thinking to say that Imran will break his pledges
Imran was imprisoned by the Musharraf/PaK army for his opposition to them and their involvement in the war
His opposition to the US war is and Paks support for it is 7 years old
It's best to understand both the prospect of his election and what it means
The so called aid has stopped and no one is protesting
It's over
It is going to be very difficult to say that Imram will do the opposite
He is already saying that there can be no resumption of PaK support for the US war.
it is no act
Oh he also talks very fondly of China
And China likes him too
Lastly and most importantly, he has stated clearly that he is going to help the US exit the Afghanistan and the region which is consistent with his positions for the last 7 yearsLast edited by Ghundal; 12-25-2011, 10:15 PM.

He didn't ever speak against ANP. That doesn't mean he confirms the policies of ANP. He spoke against those people i.e., those target killers a million times before. Political reconciliation, If for the sake of reconciliation with Imran Khan MQM could leave the politics of terror than it's not a heavy price.yao warokay ghwandi baagh ao pa khwa ye seen rawan!

Can somebody explain to me, a Iraqi Sunni Arab, what ideology this Imran Khan has and what his presidency would mean for the region (Afghanistan and Pakistan)? Does he held Islam in high regard? Is he a secularist? Who are his political rivals? Is he widely supported by the Pashtun disapora in Pakistan or are the majority against him? What is the opinion of Punjabi and Sindh people? And most importantly what would his election mean for Afghanistan?
Sorry for asking so many questions but I would appreciate an as objective as possible reply from an brother or sister.

Why would Sonami Khan speak against ANP. Speaking against MQM though is understandable because in the past Sonami Khan has lambasted MQM and its leader Altaf Hussain for MQM's hand in terrorism. So much so that Sonami Khan carried out campaign against Altaf Hussain in British parliament and asked British Govt to hand him over to Pakistan for trial in terrorist acts.
Why then Sonami Khan couldn't utter a single word against MQM?
According to reliable sources, ISI brookered an agreement between Imran Khan and Altaf Hussain whereby Altaf Hussain would provide PTI support for a public rally in Karachi and Sonami Khan in turn would not target MQM and Altaf Hussain in his speech. The news channel Bolta Pakistan has also affirmed this.
In fact, through Javed Hashmi and Shah Mahmoud Quraishi's support, MQM held a public rally in Multan where about 30000 people attended.
Moreover, the number of people in Sonami Khan rally has been estimated to be 100000 not one million. Stop exaggerating figures.Last edited by thegood; 12-26-2011, 04:27 AM.

And with lotas and turn-coats, he would sure not be able to bring any change including the much-hyped "insaf" or justice. All turn-coats and corrupt politicians have jumped on Sonami Khan's bandwagon now that the Paki military establishment is hell-bent to disrupt the democratic process.
Sonami Khan is another Junejo in the making. Those who think the crooks and egoists like Khurshid Qasuri, etc. and Sonami Khan can pull along are living in fool paradise.

Zain A Quriashi son of Shah Mahmoud Quriahi the vice chairman of PTI is working for John Kairy the influential US senator and republican leader. Actually, Hussain Haqani the ex-ambassader to US was able to cut down US support for Punjabi military e.g. in Karry Logar Bill etc. and enhanced it for civilian govt. ISI has been able to replace urdu-speaking Hussain Haqqani with a Punjabi .
With such tactics, the Punjabi military is trying to re-instate Musharaf like political dispensation. The politically imaturish and naive Sonami Khan is just being used as a puppet.
