Rabbani ,Ahmad Karzai ,Jan Khan ,Daud Daud , Ghulam Hamidi
The one thing the above all had in common was that they supported the war against the Afghan people, collectively. No one seems to mourn the countless murdered by US-NATO.
This is what binds them together.
Nothing else.

Ten years from now, the assassination of Burhanuddin Rabbani, head of Afghanistan's High Peace Council (HPC), may well be seen as a decisive step towards a renewed civil war. Rabbani, a former president of Afghanistan and important northerner, is the most significant national figure to be assassinated since the fall of the Taliban regime at the end of 2001.
Born in 1940 in the remote northern province of Badakhshan, Rabbani became an outspoken professor of Islamic law at Kabul University and the leader of the ideological and activist group Jamiat-e Islami, or Islamic Society. In 1974, fleeing arrest for his political activities, he settled across the border in Pakistan. There, subsequent to the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, he would play a crucial role in transforming Jamiat, with US and Pakistani patronage, into a network of mujahideen fighters.
It was these mujahideen groups who inherited the country after the fall of the Communist-backed regime in 1991, and Rabbani became president for a brief period before the government split along factional and ethnic lines, ushering in a period of brutal civil war that was halted only by the rise of the Taliban, who captured Kabul in 1996.
After the fall of the Taliban, Rabbani presided over the fractious Jamiat network, which, though often opposed to Hamid Karzai, grew soft on the lucrative aid and contracting boom, was too divided by internal rivalries to be effective.
In October 2010, he surprised many supporters when he became head of the HPC, a Karzai-appointed group that was criticised for consisting mostly of former mujahideen, precisely the people the Taliban had kicked out of power.
And indeed, it is likely that Rabbani saw the council, which helps administer a $200m trust fund for reintegration, primarily as a patronage mechanism and a way to enhance his clout and resources after spending a decade outside of government. A friend and tribal elder from Badakhshan told me last summer that mysterious Taliban groups had appeared in formerly secure districts in his province, in what he presumed was a ploy by Rabbani's people for the funds made available for reintegration.

Still, Rabbani was a pragmatist who saw engagement in the reconciliation process as a way of securing his position in a post-US Afghanistan. His killing will undoubtedly harden attitudes against a peace process across northern Afghanistan. It also means the High Peace Council will be in disarray before important conferences in Turkey and Germany this year. And as the latest in a string of high-profile assassinations over the past year that has eliminated many of the old mujahideen leadership, it is a worrying sign that Afghanistan, with fewer figures capable of reining in its centrifugal forces, is careening towards a renewed disintegration...

Indeed…Papa Smurf murder will strengthen those who believe that country can not go a head till Porki wild animals are alive and will make them more radical. This is a very bad news for people of this country and its future. Not standing his past crimes as Jahdai leader, he opted for peace in recent years…to this end he even lost his life. He was a moderate voice in Anti taliban movement who was working hard bring peace with taliban.Originally posted by Toramana View PostI think this had added to the political instability in Afghanistan. Rabbani was one elderly politician less controversial that should have been spared for better ethnic relations.

I listened to an interview he had recently. His peace talk was alright, and yes, everyone wants peace, but how exactly did he think he would get Afghans to agree to peace with a US occupation? The US presence is the barrier to peace within Afghanistan, the rest of the region, and the world.Originally posted by Azmal View PostIndeed…Papa Smurf murder will strengthen those who believe that country can not go a head till Porki wild animals are alive and will make them more radical. Did he go mad in his later years? Who exactly did he think would lay down their arms? Seeing this was what he was doing, then it was a part of the US war, and then, unacceptable.
Peace will come when the foreigners leave.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.
Whatever he was and whatever one may think of him, he is now in the mercy and justice of Allah jalla jala lahu. He died as a Muslim, and as fellow Muslims we should make du'aa for him because khudai nakarda if we are ever in a position where our status is dubious amongst the people we would still want everyone to make du'aa for us.
Allah forgive his shortcomings and save him from the punishment of the grave and hereafter and make his qabr an abode of comfort and ease and give patience to family. Allah replace him with someone better and closer to Him who will establish the way of life of Nabi Mubarak (saw) in Afghanistan and all the Muslim lands. Verily, Allah is with those who fear Him and have patience. The Beloved Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, so beautifully advised his nation when he said:
“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day let him speak good or remain silent.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

Rabanni died in the service of his country. He died while offering his hand of peace, trying to bring an end to this vicious war. His death will be a wake up call to many and will not be in vain.
God gave Rabanni an opportunity to amend his past mistakes. He took it, Rabanni probably goes to Heaven, His killer will go to hell. That is justice people end of story.
It is an honour to die in the service of your country. May God grant him paradise.

Let history note, that the coward killer who put a bomb in his turban and extended his hand of friendship only to kill Ustad Rabbani was not an Algerian, Moroccan, Arab or Pakistan or Iranian.
It was a Pashtun, of Afghanistan, displaying his Pashtunwali.
Ustad Burhanuddin Rabbani was cowardly killed by a Pashtun!

Schimeredge,
To be a Muslim one doesn’t have to be an Afghan! Far from it. In fact I could probably make a better case arguing that one is a better Muslim if they are not an Afghan.
I’m not saying Ustad Rabbani had any ethnic veins, just like Shayed Masud, they were not ethnically motivated. But what I’m contending is, as a Tajik, look where the noble higher ground Afghan perspective got us? This once again proves to any deluded Tajik, that we were not, are not, and will never be Afghan or accepted as one. Every Tajik has to realize that Afghanistan is a colonial British creation subsequently hijacked by Pashtunist to enforce and promote a Nazi Style Pashtun supremacy and thievery over the non-pashtun populace.
If Rabbani’s death, as sad as it is, will get the non-Pashtun majority of Afghanistan (especially the Tajiks who were historically the main opponents of partition) who are between 65-70% of the population, closer to accepting this, then his death was not in vain!Last edited by Guest; 09-22-2011, 12:25 AM.
