Kayani rejects US demand for action in N Waziristan: report -
Islamabad, Aug 11 (PTI) Pakistan''s Army Chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has rejected US'' demand for launching a military offensive against militants in North Waziristan, saying it was for the government to decide the timing of such an action, a media report said today.
US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter had yesterday called on Kayani and exchanged views on the strained US-Pakistan relations, The Nation daily said quoting diplomatic sources.
While Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said it had no knowledge of the meeting, the daily said the US envoy who met Kayani on his request discussed the challenges both the countries were facing in improving bilateral relations.
Kayani "ostensibly" rejected the ambassador''s demand for military action against militants in North Waziristan on the plea that any military action has to be decided by the government, the report said.
A report on a TV channel said that Cameron also lodged a complaint regarding Islamabad''s move of putting curbs on inter-city movement of US diplomats.
Meanwhile, four officials of US Embassy in Islamabad were sent back to Islamabad when they tried to enter Peshawar city without an NOC and other relevant documents.
Four US diplomats attempted to enter Peshawar yesterday using two vehicles.
However, police officials at a Peshawar toll plaza sent them back to Islamabad as they did not hold the required documents for entering into Peshawar, including an NOC, The Nation said.
