If Pakistan closes its borders to Afghanistan, Pakistan is denying itself revenue from the Afghan Nation that it desperately needs for its people and can use to stimulate its economy. It does not mean it will bring prices down because there are more pakistani products for the Pakistani people. When Pakistan exports products to Afghanistan and Afghans buy their products, Pakistan is getting something in return for that product. It is not giving that product for free. It gets Money from Afghanistan, with that Money(in theory), it does what ever it needs to do for the benefit for its people.

If Pakistan does close its borders, that product that usually would be sold to Afghans would just sit there and rot if there are no other buyers for it. If they sell it to local Pakistani's themselves, then they are selling it to them for cheaper prices because in a free market, they are selling it to the highest bidder which are the Afghans. If the Afghans are not buying them at the highest bid price, then there is no incentive for them to sell it to the Afghans, they would sell them to the locals.

Its like the relationship with China and the US. China is selling products to the US even though their own people are poor and have less products than their American counter parts, but still most of their products are coming to the US. The Chinese did not understand this concept until Nixon introduced it to them. They initially thought that it is better for Chinese product to stay in China for the Chinese people but they are not thinking that when they sell to America, they are getting Money and with that money they can import products from the rest of the World and build infrastructure that are needed for their Chinese citizens so the lives of the Chinese can improve. This is the reason that the Chinese economy is growing and the Chinese are slowly getting richer.

So any nation that is selling products to another nation, the nation that is doing the selling is the one that is benefiting, it is that nation's economy that is growing. So Pakistan closing trade with Afghanistan would hurt the pakistani economy as well as the pakistani people. I hope I explained it well,

Free trade debate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Afghanistan and Pak/India have historically been economically connected, it is impossible and unnatural for this economic connection to be broken without outside interference.
Brother While I never i disagee with you however you give a deep thinking into case. Over 15 billion has been poured into Afghanistan indeed way larger fund in history of Afghanistan for the past 5000 years we never got such huge contribution. After all this is the first historical and largest task placed by NATO and UN joined together. The question is where is the money? LOL yes you got me right it has been going out of the country. Nothing is left. Afghanistan is indeed a fool the question is where are all of that money imported? Why not put inside so that money can remain inside and Government can work out in building the lifes of the people by simple cycle and increasing profit by importing less and exporting more? Look at us the Canadians we are the most proud and still with strongest economy why? because we have a Mix system that controls import and export as well as production, interest and inflation.

We all want to be in the shoes of Pakistani businessmen simply because they have a country that not only controls Eastern import to their hindu enemy as well as Afghanistan and Iran if it comes to any conflict with Iran India or Afghanistan. Brother why should continue to depend on Pakistan?

We are self-sufficient in food before 1978 for example grain production was 4.5 million tons in 1976 this is a fact and I am not making this up brother. We are an agriculture-based economy with 15% of the land suitable for crops and 40% as pasture. Treditionally we can produce Wheat, rice fruits, cotton lol poppy large assortment of vegetables as well as cement, copper Gas , other taxiles, Iron, Oil electricity. And yet lol 80% of our food in imported from Pakistan. Wa Karzai ISI co-worker the true slave of Musharaf made all of Afghanistan the slave of Pakistan.

I am not in favor of border close I hope you know this because I know 3 million people will die within few weeks and economy of Afghanistan will be worth ****. Our task right now is to be self-sufficient because our economy is new and USA is leaving and if all of that money goes to pakistan lol who is going to put in more money into Afghanistan? China or Europe, or Israel or Pakistan? You get my point. Second our trade would not work with north or Iran as it does with Pakistan, India, and from there exported to europe and middle East. This was my point. While if you think its for goodness of Pakistan to keep the border open the question what is good for Afghanistan in respect to our economy?

Afghanistan is facing a war being waged by the USNATO with Pakistan support. Pakistan has been given billions of dollars in aid to support US war against the Afghans, and also support drone attacks against Pashtuns. Without Pakistan, this war was not possible. Pakistan supports the bloodshed of Afghans with its supply routes to the USNATO.

Pakistan is a failed state which is full of corruption at all levels. You have an army and government that sell the security of their own people to the US. You have US operatives roaming around freely in Pakistan. You also have US conducting drone attacks with Pakistani support. Pakistan, in short, is a slave state. No other state surpasses them.

                  Loopy,
stick with medicine, you know nothing about economics just like your military leaders whose selfishness is destroying your country.

It depends on what you are talking about, are you talking about government tax revenue or are you talking about actual or Real Revenue that is calculated in the country's GNP. A country does not lose actual or REAL Revenue when goods are smuggled into the country. What happens is the government loses tax revenue. The government is actually taxing their own consumers because when you import products, you tax the consumer of that product which is their own Pakistani citizens. The smugglers smuggle to avoid income tax and sell their products cheaper to the Pakistani consumers and the profit which the Pakistani government is supposed to be getting as tax goes to the smugglers. The smugglers are mostly Pakistani military officials and afghan tribesmen that control smuggling routes at the borders. Most of the profit goes to the Pakistani military officials.
Its like drug smuggling. Most of the profit is made at the receiving country not at the country where it is grown.

True Afghanistan is not the only country in the World, but Pakistan is falling behind economically every year while India is light years ahead. The reason is India has realized that the future belongs to the one with who has secured trading partners. While India is successfully opening up trade with everyone, Pakistan is trying to close trade, they are going in opposite directions.

Nor is Pakistan the only country in the world, nor is there any other country who will supply goods from Pakistan as much as Afghanistan does. Don't consider it a favour you will put an end on, consider it trading which will only cost you. Not us.

                          Pak border, Parliament told

by Mir Agha Samimi on 2 July, 2011 - 20:42
KABUL (PAN): Afghan forces have heightened their activities along the
border with Pakistan after a series of attacks from the neighbouring
country into Afghanistan's eastern provinces, Parliament was told on
                          Saturday.

The lower house of parliament on Saturday summoned the defence
minister, Gen. Abdul Rahim Wardak and interior minister, Bismillah
Mohammadi, to brief lawmakers on efforts at preventing the continued
cross border attacks from Pakistan into eastern Kunar and Nangarhar
                          provinces.

A number of lawmakers condemned the government for not responding to
the excursions that had left a number of people dead and wounded and
                          many others displaced.

The house had earlier asked the government to order retaliation attacks
against Pakistan, but the defence and interior ministers said that efforts
through diplomatic channels were in place to address the issue.

Abdul Rahim Wardak called the cross border attacks as barbaric and
terrorist. He said he had no idea what was Pakistan's motive behind the
                          attacks.

Afghan officials have asked Pakistani government to stop the shelling, but
Pakistani side insists their troops are not involved, blaming the Taliban
                          insurgents for the attacks.

Wardak said the number of Afghan army soldiers had been increased and all
logistic and other necessary arrangements were made available for the
                          additional troops.

He said the national security forces retaliated with artillery fire to a
Pakistani attack in southeastern Khost province a day earlier.

Wardak said intelligence activities had been mounted in the border region
and important information had been ascertained.

The defence minister criticised foreign troops for not cooperating to
prevent the attacks from Pakistan. Wardak claimed Pakistani helicopters on
Friday entered four kilometers into Afghanistan's soil.

The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), which is responsible
for Afghanistan airspace limits, had lodged a protest with Pakistani officials
regarding the violation, the minister said.

The interior minister, Bismillah Mohammadi, said they had provided evidence
of the cross border attacks to Pakistani officials during his visit to the
country with President Hamid Karzai in recent past.

He said the evidences included photos of the victims, targeted places, the
time of attacks and the number of people killed and wounded.

Mohammadi said whatever decision the government or the parliament took
in this regard would be implemented by his ministry.

Foreign minister Zalmay Rassoul told the house that he had time and again
asked Pakistani officials to stop firing rockets, missiles and artillery shells
                          into Afghan villages.

The National Directorate of Security chief, Rahmatullah Nabil, and border
affairs minister, Asadullah Khalid, were also present during the session.
The intelligence chief asked reporters to leave the house before he briefed
lawmakers about the cross border attacks.

The border affairs minister said a survey was conducted in areas targeted
in the attacks and that a report in this regard would soon be presented to
                          the president.
                          ---

I am not suggesting declaring war on Pakistan, when Afghans should be always on guard, however Pakistan is not a country to trust. We should never trust Pakis and Pakistan.

                              • From my interaction with young people in Kabul, majority are ready to go and fight Pakistan on the border. The Afghan army aparently is already positioning and starting to respond now. Every person is talking about giving Pakistan a jaw-breaking response. If it was up to me, I would coordinate with India on some pincer movements and attacks. Fvck Pakistan up for a week and then ask let international community to interevene.
