Most Pakistanis see the topic automatically will claim and say. "Oh My god you can't say that" Or someone will respond what you mean by Race? there is no Afghan, or Some-one will respond. Yes Pakistan has 2.5 million Afghan race and we will kick them out of our land. etc etc
I purposely have chosen the word "Race" and yes from many aspects Afghan can be a Race. It all depends to what Race means to you.
We are going to look at this very carefully, in order to understand the subject, and controversy behind all this. First of all it is very important for all to know the history behind its ethnic groups, specially Pashtuns and Baloch whom at once were part of Afghanistan, till this no Pashtun with true Pashtun/Afghan Blood has ever said "We accept as our Nation". If they ever did the world of Pakistani politics were far to be different from it modern Politics. If Pashtuns ever accepted Pakistan, non of bloodshed would of taken place against Pakistan, which started ince 2004. Needless to Say Pakistan has a history of conflict with its Pashtun population, as early as 1950s which was peace thanks to Bacha Khan, and again in 1970s in which for the first time in history of Pakistan, its order and control reached beyond Peshawar, into Quetta, Chitral, Darya-e-Ismail Khan and etc. Before 9/11 Pakistan tried many things in making sure that either they have full control of Pashtunistan, if at at least take control of their open enemy "Afghanistan".
Amongst many deals since 1950s with Afghanistan, the unsuccessful deal with Taliban in 1999 finally concluded that signing off Durand Line is not an easy task, hopeless they remain, concluded that unity of these people was to be a must. The unity of Pashtun means taking over Afghanistan, unity with Islamists, something which Pakistan can relay on, and plans were layered and was soon to be finished within few years. Thinks changed for Pakistan in 2000 and that concern of USA invasion and pre-plan secret of using Pakistan has a based was soon released. In rush plans were changed in 2001. After 9/11 Pakistan saw that this one shot one opportunity has again made a U turn in which Pakistan was to play another history major role in the history of Afghanistan.
It took Pakistan 3 years to convince Pashtuns that America is attacking Afghan and will soon be inside Pakistan NWFP and therefore Pakistan forces must be given allowance by the tribes and people to operate in order to protect the tribes. Very clever this mean making border post, something which even British never thought of achieving. In 2004, 75 border posts were made, and since then so far some 200 posts have been made in 2006 Pakistan even tried to make a real border "Berlin Wall of Germany". Noticed the backlash Pakistan withdrew its plan in 2008. Prior to 9/11 Pakistani government made had no control over 60% of NWFP, but now Pakistan has almost 70% control of NWFP and 40% of FATA. According to Pakistani politicians all of Pakistan will be under firm control of by 2015.
Back to subject what is the percentage of Pashtuns in Pakistan. At the success of Peace talks with Amir of Afghanistan British general concluded now we have 1/2 of Afghanistan's land, and 1/4 of its population.
Well in the early 1880s British officers counted total Population of Afghanistan to be 7.5 million by 1898 NWFP to be 2.5 million which means Afghanistan by itself was now fewer 6 million. In 1940s Bacha Khan's claim was that there were 3 million Pathans in Pakistan. His speech was famous in which he differed Pathans from Hindu Muslims of Pakistan in general. By 1950s Afghanistan population doubled which means it was now around 12 million, which did not changed until a new estimate by Russian in 1960-70s.
The First Pakistani Census came in 1950s. For the first time a true census was provided in Pakistan, this was one of its kind. In that Census Pashtun population was rounded to be 8 Percent. You do the calculation, 8% of 40 million turns out 3.2 million or so. Very close to What BAcha khan said, maybe an increase by 200,000 within 10 years.
So Afghanistan has a population of 12 million and here in Pakistan we have a population of 3 million. Which seems British was correct Afghanistan lost 25% of its Population and 1/2 of its Land. Which many westerners mistaken as simply dividing Afghanistan's Population and Land. That claim is incorrect, Afghanistan did not loss 50% of its population to British, but rather 50% of its land.
So What happened in the future, how is it that now Pakistan claims to have more Pashtun in Pakistan then in Afghanistan. Lets Assume the Pashtun population of Afghanistan in late 1990s estimates was 47%, 14 million, and due to many Afghan refugees into Pakistan, and Pakistan just simply cheated and entered Refugees as part of their own population to make an increase in Pakistan's Pashtun population which turned out 16 million OK fine Lets Admit up to here we have 50-50 so Pakistan has the same number of Pashtuns as Afghanistan. But really think about how Pakistan do their census. Anyways in 2004 they claimed Pakistan is home of Pashtuns because it has double number of Pashtuns compare to Afghanistan, which means that today Afghanistan being 33 million home to 16 million, and here Pakistan has some more than 30 million Pashtuns? And yet Since 50s until now Percentage of Balochis remains same where as Pashtuns according to Pakistan has doubled?
WOw Amazing
So here we are trying to fight out that Pashtuns in Pakistan are lossing their culture, language etc and have poets coming from Afghanistan in making sure Pashtun remains as Pashtuns. Here Pakistan claims Pashtu speakers are doubled?
Seriously guys Don't joke
Right now Pakistan at Maximum 17 million Pashtuns included all of Afghan refugees not just in NWFP but in all of Pakistan.
If you still want to argue for 26 or 36 million then fine you fine with your naive mentality, but if you agree that there is something fishy in Pakistan's demographic census and further wants to add please go on.
If you are one of those Punjabis who still claim of "Pakistan home of Pashtun" despite what's been happening today. Please make us laugh.
Afghanistan is home of Pashto and this is a fact, Pashtu speaker makeup 47-55% of Afghanistan, and racially speaking Afghan is a dominated Race in Afghanistan if not by 80 for sure by 75%.
I would like to believe that if it wasn't for the Russian war today Afghanistan would of had double the number of Pashtun in Pakistan.
So please people act smart and idiotically don't claim Pashtuns being double in a foreign land, because that's what ISI wants us to believe. Look at the facts.
