That´s the difference between Pathans and Pashtuns. In addition, Afghanistan´s media is dominated by Dari (80%?) which automatically teachs non-Darizubans the language. The common language does not change the fact that both groups are influenced differently. The Pathans are close to non-Pathans and while in Afghanistan the Pashtuns get close to non-Pashtuns. Persian-speaking Iranians and Farsiwan or even all Darizubans of Afghanistan share also a lot, even their ethnical background, but should we call for a unification with Iran? If Darizubans want it they would be 100% succesful because they have the political power and the intellects and there is no real threat to them that could stop them but they don´t do it.
I think the 80% figure is a bit overstated (some Pashtuns may even consider it a indication of Dari/Persian chauvinism). I can make an equivalent claim i.e., apart from Pashtuns living in Kabul, the rest don't undersatand Dari very proficiently.

The categorization as Pashtuns and Pathans also is deliberate aimed at keeping Pashtun people divided to mainatain the balance power presently heavily tilted in favour of a certain group having grabbed Kabul Jan with the help of its US/NATO allies. Pathan has historically been used by Hindustanis for any Pashtun whether from Afghanistan or the present Pukhtunkhwa. It is not a cultural categorization.

Now you yourself have accepted the dominent status of Dari and the political power that a certain group wields in Kabul. That is one reason that Pashtuns feel deprived and want an independent Pashtun state (comprising of Pashtun majority areas) or a regional settlement that would gaurantee the cultural and political unity of Pashtuns and a space to Pashtuns for the growth of their culture without the pressure/threat from Parso-Dari or Urdu-Hindi culture.

Why should they dominate in culture a country? As long they can live among themself, speak their language freely, practize Pashtu and speak Pashtu there won´t be any problems, even if Afghanistan would be dominated to 95% by non-Pashtuns. Noone force Pashtuns to give up their identities. They dominate only there where their figure all other ethnicities and that´s mostly their regions around Kandahar, Helmand, Paktia, Khost, Khaybar ... you know? Actually, these regions could be a official country for Pashtuns and their nationality. They do not even need any borders against non-Pashtuns. As long this large region keep as bulk for Pashtuns they can call it as watan and proclaim per referendum an independance of the region but not by force.
The right to self-rule is a universal human right whether acquired through peaceful struggle or violent means if peaceful struggle fails. I don't think there is any force whether in Afghanistan or external to Afghanistan to have the capacity to prevent the unification of Pashtuns once Pashtuns decide enough is enough. Obviously, you cannot hold 50 million people under your thumb forever those also Pashtuns. Also the power of the present Dari speaking ruling elite is dependent on US/NATO force and once they leave, there is no way this elite can sustain its position.

That is why Amrullah Salih is in favour of American basis in Afghanistan.

Rest, as long as the Dari speaking elite has power, it would like to rule the entire Afghanistan including Pashtuns. The day, they lost that power they wouldn't hesitate to say goodbye to Afghanistan. So it is not out of some self-less patriotism; it is rather out of concrete interest.

Foreign words on people can´t devide them when they share the same culture and identity. That´s not possible. First you need to take one´s identity away and than -fy or -ize him to devide him from his brothers and sisters. In the case of Pashtuns it is not possible while on the other hand it was able for Pashtuns to assimilate other groups. In Kabul and all the surrounding areas, 90% of Pashtuns understand Dari. Kabul is the centre from where every Dari issue spread to east, south, west and north. Noone can escape from that influence and by time everyone is able to speak and understand Dari, even if it´s on a primerly school basis.

The right to self-rule is a universal human right whether acquired through peaceful struggle or violent means if peaceful struggle fails. That´s correct and I support it. On the other hand Pashtuns need to accept and tolerate non-Pashtuns, too and their wishes and hopes. Even if they want joining Uzbekistan, Iran or Tajikistan.

Obviously, you cannot hold 50 million people under your thumb forever those also Pashtuns. Also the power of the present Dari speaking ruling elite is dependent on US/NATO force and once they leave, there is no way this elite can sustain its position.
Can you prove that claim? The elitists were before NATO, before Russia, before UK´s intervene always Darispeakers, except for the Taliban era. Your claim they are backed by NATO is wrong. Today, Pashtuns have all sits and all powers. But again they fail to reach or do anything valuable. That´s pure Pashtun Nazi propagandas made by Taliban, the real enemies of non-Pashtuns and Pashtuns. With such statements they want to win the Pashtuns on their site to bring more insecurity to Afghanistan and make the life of non-Pashtuns harder tha it already is. The entire Karzai government consists mostly by Pashtuns. The entire elitists of the government are Wardaki Pashtuns. 40% of all Generals, officiers are Pashtuns. All the missions against Taliban in east and south are led by Pashtun officiers, coworking with NATO and US. Moshtarak was led in Helmand by General Zazai. Just to name one example. As I wrote in one topic, Massoud did broke the neck of the entire of the old Pashtun and Tajik elitists in the 70s and 80s. You need to explain your claim how they are depending on NATO.

That is why Amrullah Salih is in favour of American basis in Afghanistan.
He is not on the paylist of US like many Talibans or Karzai government. Amrullah Saleh is neither pro or con. He is a neutral person. He many times stated that if the US want to withdraw it´s their right. But the fight against Taliban will go on and he will fight them. I don´t know from where you guys grab such non-senses. Just listen to the interviews. Atmar, all the Pashtun generals, Karzai (the double-faced), the AfghanMellat, the Wardak clan (the new Pashtun elitists and even more powerful then the royal house) want the US to settle permanently. Only Abdullah is pro US. Even Rabbani is against US in the region. Please provide your claims with videos or articles. Karzai self is among a Taliban and call them a Pashtun resistance movement, a legitimated one by the ''sons of Afghanistan'' and ''his brothers'' but among NATO he says they should keep killing them. Wikileaks revealed it. I understand why they want US to stay there and I also support them in the fight against Talibanization of Afghanistan but I don´t support them that they play a double-game.

Rest, as long as the Dari speaking elite has power, it would like to rule the entire Afghanistan including Pashtuns. The day, they lost that power they wouldn't hesitate to say goodbye to Afghanistan. So it is not out of some self-less patriotism; it is rather out of interests.
Everyone has interests there. F.ex. Pashtuns self. They propagated 120 years a false history and national identity and a fake figures for the different ethnicities. Wasn´t that patriotism and dominance with a strong sense for oppressing non-Pashtuns?

Just prove your claims. Brother, there are a lot of propagandas created by Pakistan to keep Afghanistan weak and they use Pashtuns for their own reginal agendas.
