Would you not agree that it was his pashtunistan policy towards pakistan that made afghanistan isolated and forced to depend on the Soviet Union. Once he realized that the pashtunistan policy is a failed policy and so he wanted to recognize the durand line and made the soviets fearful that he was trying to diversify his economic partners and was initiating policies that would release afghanistan from the dependence of the soviet union therefore the Khaliqis and Parchamies killed him because of his decision to let go of pashtunistan.

In the Soviets line of thinking, letting go of pashtunistan equaled to letting go of the Soviet Union.

No not at all, if it was for Pashtunistan then Zahir Shah who made him resign him when when he was the prime minister should instead have been killed by the so called Soviets. Pashtunistan was a colossal failure as a policy.

Change of policy on Pashtunistan and Durand line was not not initiated then, but the palpable shift took with Daud's resignation in 1959 (I think) and durring the 'democray era' 1963 onwards relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan were in almost harmony. Daud, however was edging close to the non-Soviet bloc and he had a degree of disdain for them now. And majority of the people do no believe Soviet hand in his toppling, but see it primarily as result of internal dynamics.
