  • GRB you can affiliate Pashtoons with low income and less educated class but you cant deny their contribution in progress. Btw how the sole service sector can be responsible for economic progres? Paying tax at source is fine but still its not due to morality or nationalistic factor to contribute at will while keeping in view the statistics of Pakistanis paying the taxes.

      To Pashtons,
Its amusing seeing Pakistan supporting Fathan turning into diehard Afghan nationalist in this thread lol. Pakistan country created by Desi people for Desi people and culture as home for India muslim...so the real danger to us Pashtons are the propagation of substandard Desi culture and Urdu language… which deteriorates the Pashton heritage more so and diminishing our ethics and values for weaker and inferior ones in order to assimilate into being a Pakistani…inclusion of Jee, Rohtee, teek tak, Bajlai and even to adoption of inferior indic culture… parading woman naked Indic style in Nawshira few years ago. The only solution for all you Pashtonistai Pashtons is separate from Punjab/Pakistan and reunion with Afghanistan. That way you’ll not only be the “leaders” but your people will have the most leverage. For in terms of population there 100 times more Punjos, Sindi, Mahjar and other Indic people in Pakistan than Pashtons , and this gives them a inordinate balance of power based on their political system. When Pashtons of Pashtonistan rejoin Afghanistan, then we( Pashtoons) would have the centralized balance of power and would become an absolute majority, we’d end up becoming 85% of the population.
So what would you Pashtons of Pashtonistan rather have? being Pawns of Indics- getting on scraps that they left over , or let these Indic stop exploiting your homeland and Unite with your brothers?

Pakhtuns are integral to the entire Pakistan ESPECIALLY Karachi. Everytime I've been its always the pakhtuns that are doing the tough work never have I seen punjabi or any other doing the base and constructive work. My great grandfather ran the railway system in our town at a time where there was no education and everyone was poor, people couldn't do anything except farm. Who runs the treacherous roads and sorts out all the deliveries within Pakistan? PAKHTUNS. Even in Rawalpindi, a city deep in punjab needs us to keep it going. If anything GRB you should be appreciating the fact that pakhtuns are there to keep Karachi running. What is it..are you jealous or something?

          • ^ The fact that Pakistan can't run without us, every main job that needs doing we do it. Making buildings, doing business, deliveries and every constructive work there is. The fact that we are in there doing everything from the base A to Z. The fact that without pakhtuns the Pakistan cricket team won't reach anywhere and in any other sport and GRB doesn't like it. Its frustration I understand .

            • ^ Pashtuns have recently arrived in pak cricket team, without us, it was doing fine.
If we stop working as labourers, watchman, drivers... Pakistan would not stop functioning, because these jobs can be done easily by others.
If we were making magority of docters, engineers, scientists etc of pakistan then you would have made heavy point.( And remember we do have sufficient number of professionals and educated ones, but u did'nt mention them).

              • Pakistan overall is a lazy nation, if it wanted to become on top of the world it could. Back in the second world war the Japanese were nuked twice and look at where they are now, I guarantee within a few years they will be ok again. Because they are a hard working nation. What I'm trying to say is pakhtuns are hard workers and will achieve in all areas if given the chance. But corruption, greed and bad leadership pushes us to ruin.

Oh yes sorry about that, not to forget given the education, many pakhtuns here are doctors and with respectable statuses. Luffy jan the point I was trying to get across, from what I've observed in Pakistan. Whenever any type of work is done it is always the pakhtuns, why is that? Because they are willing to go through the hard work that type of commitment is rarely seen anywhere else, in whatever field. I don't know much about the education system there.

Also a force of Pakistans army...

                • its easy to say pashtuns arent need in pakistan because there are others to do the hard work but thats not true at all. gulf arabs could use arab labor to build their cities, instead they import cheap labor from pakistan, india, phillipines and elsewhere while their own stay unemployed. not to mention there is a culture there about hard labor being beneath them for their own people. without pashtuns, the economic structure of pakistan would be turned upside down, as would any other country that takes their minorities contributions for granted.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

                  • dear pakhtunzai , punjabis are more talanted, intelligent, hardworking and sharp than pashtuns , though they have more tendency towards corruption...dont underestimate them.
Dont assume that punjabis do only high class jobs, in punjab all most all labour jobs are done by their own people. Ya in karachi case is different. Pashtuns are prominent as labourers because in gulf pashtun are mostly doing labour. While punjabis there are mostly educated ones with good jobs.

that says more about punjabis inability to run a government and run an unfair system than it does about them being talented. pashto speakers are less than 2% of punjab, so naturally most of their jobs will be done by their own. i would love to see the national budget allocation between the provinces, because i am willing to guess that balochistan and kp are getting short changed.

                      • Punjabis have been polishing british shoes so they left them with these jobs and "education".
Luffy i think your problem is you are suffering from biasness.
the only reason pashtun dont have as much opportunities was because they were thorn in the eye of the raj while punjabis /others were marrying their mothers to british and giving them a good foot massage.

It doesnt suit us to use such langauge against punjabis. I have met many punjabis and they always praise pashtuns for their bravery, melmastay , sincerity, and religousness. Ya they do laugh at our urdu dialect but its not a big deal.
And here i am seeing you using your gutter-mouth against punjabis. Because of you afghanis, misconceptions about us are arising in pakistan. Plz stay away frm our internal affairs.

                            • Assalaamualaikum,

I am not Pukhtoon, but this forum is incredibly interesting and after reading these posts and this thread I just had to join.

                              Where to start? LOL.

Girls RB: Educated people may seem more civilized but that is not the case... how many college-educated politicians in Pakistan regardless of their ethnicity or Muftis of Dar-ul-Ulooms of Afghanistan steal without the use of a knife or gun? Hardly civilized, but their methods of being uncivil are so subtle that most of us think they are actually benevolent!
I was a student in Multan, and I had rented a very small flat with two other students and our next door neighbor was a Pashtoon family of laborers that cut firewood. I say this from the bottom of my heart, they were the most respectful people I have ever met in my entire life. Their women knew we were young and far from our homes and would send us meals every once in a while. They could not afford a pardha to cover their entire roof and it was covered only partially. The women used to cook on the roof with an open-fire stove and since we moved in to the area they did not come on the roof, because our home was on an upperlevel and had a full view of their roof. We attained such a level of trust that the elder of the house just asked me to draw my curtains when the women come to the roof and not look. We respected them so much that he just said it once and we closed our curtains once and never opened them again. The point of this story is to illustrate that respect is a two-way street. You cannot expect the Pashtoon in Karachi to respect your culture if you do not respect theirs.

                              • I respectfully disagree with some of the posters here that feel that Pashtun culture is EXTREMELY different from other cultures of Pakistan. Usually the most friction is between Punjabis and Pashtoons as we tend to view them as polar opposites. But I think the Pashtoons fall into the same hole as Punjabis do in their views of the other group... it's all based on stereotypes.

Take a Punjabi man in a village and a Pashtoon man in a village:
                                1. Both will fiercely defend their property and the pardah of their women
                                2. Both would have the similar views on what is "proper" and what is "improper".
                                3. Both would take it as a matter of honor to respect their guests.

The extent to which they apply these may vary but in essence besides the fact that your tongues were taught to move differently and one prefers a dhoti and the other a pakoul what each group sees as the norms of society is largely similar.

I think most cultures in Pakistan have similar definitions of what is "right" and what is "wrong"... that is the "common culture" that girls RB wishes to form... but it already exists... and honestly your choice of food and head gear are far less important to your cultural identity than your views on what's OK and what isn't (ie.morality).

Based on this you will fine that pretty much every ethnic group in Pakistan gets along pretty damn well at the personal level. With the exception of one group of people who seem to have a problem with everyone else....

                                1. The rich city-slicker.

Be it Lahore, Karachi or Peshawar.... the average person who is in the mid to upperclass of those cities have a very different take on what is "proper" compared to the rest of Pakistan. Now, generally-speaking the richest people in the country are either Punjabi or Muhajir and the rest of Pakistan makes the mistake of assuming they are representative of their entire ethnic group.

Everywhere else in Pakistan it is understood that there are many languages in this country and not everyone can speak all of them. So if you both can't speak the same language you try to speak in a common tongue... usually the regional language of the area, and if you can't do that then you go to urdu as a last resort, and in the age of our great-great-great-great grandparents when there was no urdu...how did the punjabi and pashtoon communicate? Farsi....

The point being that no matter where you are it is expected at least that you understand the language of the local inhabitants if you are going to know reside there. There are a lot of Pashtoon people who live in Multan... and every single one I met can speak Saraiky (not in lieu of Pashto...but in addition to).... why because they have been living there and there really isn't excuse not to know the language of everyone around you.

So how does this apply to Karachi? Girls RB... you have made the mistake of thinking you are apart of the majority/native population of Karachi. In 1947 you should have learned Sindhi or Balochi as a 2nd language.... but in 2011 Pashto should be your 2nd language... Karachi isn't in KP...but it has more pashtoons than Peshawar, Kabul, Quetta, or Kandahar.... in essence if it wasn't before, it is a Pashtoon city now and you are the visitor.
