If you do not know this basic fact of south asian politics that Taliban [in Afghanistan] were the brainchild of ISI,their trainers, their facilitators and their supporters then I think you need to go to school again. I cant believe you said this.

Anyway to over come this basic cognitive disability, please google ISI and Taliban. You will find hudreds of references including confessions from Col. Imam - the spiritual and military mentor of Mulla Omer and his gang.

haleka i know all of that. That does not mean anything. They received training, they were armed by etc etc.

If you are so smart, explain why America watches how ISI is fighting a war aginast America in afghanistan. And instead of attacking ISI America funds it?

A parliamentary committee has heard stunning allegations from a former translator who claims the Canadian military tried to cover up the fatal shooting of an Afghan man in October 2007.
Malgarai Ahmadshah alleged to MPs in Ottawa that the Canadian military "panicked" and rounded up a half a dozen Afghans between the age of 10 and 90 after the shooting of a man sleeping on the roof of a compound in southern Afghanistan.
Ahmadshah, a Canadian citizen born in Afghanistan, admitted inside the committee room that he did not witness the alleged shooting, but said he was present for the interrogation of detained men afterward.
He said the soldier who allegedly shot the man in the back of the head mistakenly thought he had a pistol.
Ahmadshah also described how one of the detainees put his head on the ground and "begged to have a bullet put in his head" rather than be handed over to the Afghan National Directorate of Security (NDS). Ahmadshah, who served as adviser to the former Joint Task Force Commander in Afghanistan from June 2007 to June 2008, acknowledged under a heated round of questioning from Conservative MP Laurie Hawn that he had "no direct evidence" to support his allegations.
During the opposition's round of questioning, Liberal MP Bob Rae asked the witness directly whether he saw the alleged shooting. Rae noted accidental shootings can sometimes happen in battle and reminded the witness that it was important to "differentiate between what he knows and what he thinks."
Ahmadshah testified he was not at the compound during the alleged incident, although he was allowed to see the intelligence report and took part in the interrogation of the detained men. He alleged a member of the military personally described it to him as "murder."
When contacted by CBC News following Ahmadshah's testimony, Michel Gauthier, the now-retired lieutenant-general who was commander of all Canadian Forces overseas at the relevant times of Ahmadshah's allegations, said that due to his upcoming appearance before the Military Police Complaints Commission, he will not be offering any comment.
      Canada 'subcontracting torture': witness

He also insisted he passed his allegations that the Canadian military was "subcontracting torture" to the NDS up the chain of command. He also said he "cannot believe" Defence Minister Peter MacKay doesn't know about his allegations.
"I want him to sit across from me look me in the eyes and say he doesn't know," the former translator said.
When Bachand asked whether Ahmadshah believed that Hillier was telling the truth when the general said that Taliban fighters — and not innocent farmers — were detained, the witness replied, "No."
When Hawn asked if Ahmadshad was calling Hillier a liar, Ahmadshad became agitated and accused the Tory MP of trying to put words in his mouth.
Hawn then asked why Ahmadshah would keep working with the Canadian military after these alleged experiences. The witness replied that he did so because he wanted to help his people.
The witness was accompanied by Amir Attiran, a University of Ottawa law professor who has led legal efforts to get the government to release unredacted documents pertaining to the Afghanistan mission.
At one point, Attiran would not let Ahmadshah answer Hawn's question on whether has an ongoing legal action against the government, telling Hawn he could look it up in the court file.

For as long as we have corrupt pimps and drug-pushers "representing" us in the so-called government, nobody will benefit.

The Taliban are a reactionary force against instability and crisis. They consist of the rural population who are sick and tired of being pushed around by drug lords, corrupt adminstrators and most of all invaders and crusaders.

We can't have a government entirely run by semi-educated madrassa students. But that does not mean we have to let our fate be determined by bunch of sickos like Kharzai, Fahim, Khalili etc.
        Snagar,

This is by far one of your posts where rationally you have summed it up. I agree with most of what you think. Taliban are reactionary force and they only thrive in vaccum indeed. And the inability of thwarting and discrediting them has been by large due to the type of government, which have explained what it is, and as well futility of U.S. war strategy before McCrystal. Too many civilian casualties has annihilated the population driving them towards the insurgency which inturn has made the insrgency intractable in some respects.

Snagara, seriously, I have my own critical and independent mind and I hardly believe in everything projected at us by the media. The previous U.S. administration fought the war untill last year with almost no serious efforts to jsutify means (war strategy) and ends (objectives), hence to sustain public support. It only became a kind of bone of contestation in the recent elections, and Obama yet presenting somwhat clrearsome strategy. His strategy is contridicting in itself and in my view just pulling the wool on the public eyes. Well, his major speech if you remember was at the CENTCOM, I would suggest you look for it and compare it with Mac-Crystal's Counter Insurgency (COIN) and you will find the stark contridtictions in terms of the war efforts and objectives. And also the troop pull out date is also very obscure. Unless the U.S. is economically too burdened with the war, I don't see them chickening out and running away. The casualty is nowhere the Iraq-syndrome or Vietnam. In short, on the surface it don't seem like they are looking in-to the exist strategy many would think. Experience also tell us that doesn't mean they will win in military terms, they simply wont. Military mean can at most create desired environment for the political settlment. Event this will hinge the support of people. I would guess the year from now on will be crucial.

Karzai and his Kharzay government should clear its act. He needs to have less of his Panjsheri and NA goons and more of honest and competent people who know how to handle and run the country. Or even the might 46 coutnries will not be to save him from the wrath of his people. In the words of Rambo; the venom of the snake and the vengenace of Afghan.lol

This is a very good question. I have my own analysis of looking at this quagmire.

There are two premises to my analysis:

          1) Pakistan army generals [top echelon of power] along with it the seniors of her agencies are a second level army of US. This is an established fact among those who know the inside core of the Pakistan army.US finds it easy to tackle with a third world country that too muslim country using the one who have defacto power than the dejure titular heads who themselvesd are at the mercy of these generals even for their survival.

          2) The instability in Afghansitan gives an edge to US for two reasons: Its stay is justified and second gains a position of exerting pressure over its the countries which could be her rivals economically, politically or otherwise like Iran and China. This strategy is further corroborated by Zbegniew Breznski's appproach to target China in the future.

With these prmises ,I think that US partial support of Pakistan army and ISI is understandable.

US finds Pakistan an easy going ally against Iran and hence continues its support while at the same time pressurising her nuclear teeth by statements of Foreign secretary hilliary Clinton so that Pakistan neither goes much nearer to Iran nor dissociate herself from Iran as it will be used along with Afghanistan as a nursery of Sunni fighters against the shia fighters in the future.

In past it was only Afghanistan and Pashtuns who were used agaisnt anti imperialists of Russia to uphold US hegemony ,this time it is going to be the Punjbai Lashkar e Jhangvi type of orthodox Sunni fighters along with the already charged Afghan religious zealouts who will be used as guniea pigs at the altar of US to crush Iran instead of Russia. The final stage then will be ready for China as it is the main target this time.

I hope it satiates the insatiated mind about the future political chess going to be played in the region.

With all due respect Pir_Rokhan, altough I agree with most of what you have said to apoint, but you went on to further speculate: "..US finds Pakistan an easy going ally against Iran and hence continues its support while at the same time pressurising her nuclear teeth by statements of Foreign secretary hilliary Clinton so that Pakistan neither goes much nearer to Iran nor dissociate herself from Iran as it will be used along with Afghanistan as a nursery of Sunni fighters against the shia fighters in the future.

This is just beyond me, and how would that be done? The scenario would seem too crazy and I could imagine the scale of it. lol Wouldn't it further the U.S. security dilemma and severely damage its interests in the region. I would think so. Pir Rokhan, to me it would sound like when pissing off a dog, you either hold on to his head not letting him to bite or let him bite you.
