  • Hand off our trees Karzai told NATO

Recently some media channels have reported that NATO troops in Ghazni province cut down 4000 trees; first and foremost allow me to say that the number shown in the media is over exaggerated. There has been one case of security forces cutting 602 trees in the month of September 2010 along the road from Ghazni to Sharana. International and Afghan security forces cut down these trees after notifying the district commissioner and local residents and discussing the danger that comes from behind these trees. The trees on this stretch of road provided concealment for the insurgence to place IEDs and target ANSF and ISAF and sometimes end up targeting civilian cars and claimed civilian lives.http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010...-device-deathsthese trees were cut down with consultation from agriculture experts in the PRT and ADT in order to ensure that the trees were cut properly so that it can re-grow in the spring. In the 120 day period following the removal of the trees, security authorities in the area reported an 88 percent decrease in casualties overall and a huge cut down in insurgence activity. We understand the importance and beauty of nature and its key role in preserving a clean environment, but in the same time we should also understand that the threat imposed to our lives from these IEDs placed by insurgence have caused thousands of civilian lives throughout the country. The formation of our forces in Ghazni and Sharana are included with PRT and engineering battalion, our Engineering Battalion together with their Afghan partners in Ghazni and Sharana province are out in the local communities on daily basis in order to build new infrastructure or repair old ones demolished from the 30 years of war, despites of insurgence IED threats.
http://www.dvidshub.net/video/106013...-train-trainerAfghanistan’s forestry were in a miserable shape during Taliban’s regime, particularly in northern Afghanistan when Taliban and their trans-national terrorist partners ordered to root out thousands of gardens in late post Taliban regime, however after the Taliban’s fall its almost impossible to repair the damage caused by their cruelty, USAID has played a key role in restoring Afghanistan’s gardens and greeneries. USAID alone has planted more than millions of trees throughout the country since the fall of Taliban.
http://afghanistan.usaid.gov/en/USAI...rn_Afghanistanour intention in cutting down these trees was nothing, but diminishing insurgency and improving security as well as freedom of movement for the population. Our government and people are committed to restore peace and to rebuild Afghanistan’s broken infrastructures. To follow up with our commitment we have spent billions of dollars in building Afghanistan, both our civilian and military effort is focused on building a prosperous future for the people of AfghanistanThe one that Afghanistan has always deserved.

        noorzai, just shutup.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

          LOL

Speaking as an Environmental Scientist Planting trees is extremely commendable act and worthy; the problem is sapplings that young cannot develop deep soil/ground roots to irrigate ground water and fixate mineral/rock matter for environmental/geological remediation.

With that said cutting down 4000 already existing trees for this reason alone becomes ecologically devastating. These trees have important ground root systems which maintain geotopical integrity and mineral density.

Important regional Arbor Agronomic; after the fall of the Taliban, exploitation of precious and rare Afghan Timber forests in Afghanistan increased. I will provide more materials on this later
