I was in Afghanistan back in the 80's. I went to school back then. Nothing was Islamic about the government or the people in power.

You are right. All Islamic governments around the world are unislamic. Saudi Arabia & Iran are both unislamic.

But the leaders of those countries are not communists. Tarakai, Amin, Karmal were all kuffaar. The only one who tried to convince others of being a Muslim was Najib. And he did a bad job convincing us. Because to be a Muslim you have to implement al walaa wal baraa. His baraa was against the common people. And his walaa was with Communists and Russians.

Rejecting al walaa wal baraa nullifies one's Islam. Because it is a fundamental aspect of being a Muslim.

I've heard that the belief of even a staunch muslim passes through many fluctuations. So we can't firmly say this about anyone who has been brought up in a muslim community that he has completely turned a kafir.
