Wikipedia and its reference says this
The Pashtuns are the world's largest (patriarchal) segmentary lineage ethnic group. According to Ethnologue, the total population of the group is estimated to be around 50 million[1] but an accurate count remains elusive due to the lack of an official census in Afghanistan since 1979

But this really very strange that according to Wikipedia 27.2 Million Pashtuns live in Pakistan while the half 13.47 Million live in Afghanistan. It means Pakistan is the country where the largest number of Pashtuns live. This is really a news for me.

        ^^
pakhtunkhwa has more pashtuns primarily because its much more fertile than afghanistan, especially the peshawar valley and also because of relative peace compared to Afghansitan. Also there are still possbily a million refugees from Afghanistan in KPK.

I have heard it many times that Pashtunwali is half infidelity/kufar. There are many things in Islam which Pashtuns dont follow like inheritance for women, no participation of women in Congregational prayers, taking 3 times divorce at one time as final divorce, drug trafficking, poppy cultivation, smuggling, traditions like swara , usuary, selling of daughters(in some areas) sodomy, paedophilia, marriages of girls without their consent , corruption, no knowledge of Quran in Pashto language (just reciting)etc .

Although these are also no norms and mores of Pashtunwali but just evil and unislamic practices in Pashtun society.

You must ahve learned pashtunwali from wikipedia, poor you.
pashtunwali is not half infidelity(as if you a 100% non muslim should care)
pashtuns are not illiterate, terrorist or whatever you brainwashed little person is saying.

pashtuns need to realize that its no longer the 18th century when we can just march into india full of bravado and ghairat and conquer the subcontinent. today, a beghairat desk jocky in the west could press a button that sends nuclear missiles to afghanistan and wipes out our entire race if they wanted to.

its not only time for pashtuns to "modernize" its time for us to be the leaders of modernization, not to just follow a trend. this does not mean to ditch our religion or culture, in fact, they should be the main motivation for our advancement. in order to survive, we must be self sufficient and strong. its our weakness today that makes us prey to our neighbors and the west. why do u think the west hasnt attacked a nation like iran yet? because they are economically strong enough to educate their people to produce homemade weaponry that makes the west think twice before attacking.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

You are 100% right . This is not middle ages or 18th century.I agree we go for development and not at the cost of our religion which is our beliefs, worship and ethics and our Pashtunwali which is our culture and society.

My lakki marwat is one of the most backward district of KPK ,it is a desert. But i am sure its development is more than any district of afghanistan. Lakki cement factory is largest cement company in pakistan in terms of production , it is owned by urduspeakers from karachi. They have implanted it near mineral-rich shiekh badin mountain to extract cement ingredients directly from it. It is providing jobs to thousands of local marwats. A sugar mill factory is also in naurang, lakki marwat.. It is a remote area, but we have mobile networks of all companies like jazz, telenor, zong, warid and ufone.
High speed broadband internet by PTCL is available in lakki marwat and every educated young man has PC in his home. Indus highway starts in lakki, pass through karak and ends in kohat..i dont think there is any highway in afghanistan...lakki marwat is still a backward area, not because of punjabis but due to selfish khans and politicians of my area.
Waziristan is economically backward area but it doesnt means wazirs are backward people, domail is a FR of bannu and is inhabited by wazirs. This domail is a sandy bareen region but has highest literacy rate in surrounding region with large number of professional docters, engineers, MBAs etc. Here in my medical college, wazirs from small region like domail are more in number than wazirs of waziristan. And they compete on open merit seats, not quota seats of FATA.

Great and original information. This is the kind of information an ddata which you dont find in books or Google. First hand experience and observation.

During my tours of Pashtun areas in Pakistan and Afghanistan I have gone through these areas of Lakki Marwat. Naurang is a fascinating junction between DI Khan and Bannu. Marwat people are so nice and their Pashto accent is so heart absorbing that I made few Marwat friends in few days during my stay in DI Khan.

I saw a big cement factory while travelling from Bannu to DI Khan. It would be the one mentioned above. If irrigation system is developed in Lakki Marwat area then this desert can become highly productive agricultural land. ANP Government in Peshawar must give priority to to the development of the southern districts of Khyber Pashtunkhwah.

Pashtun nationalism and literary activities are not as strong in southern districts as its in the northern ones. Except Marwat areas you wont find Pashto journalism and Pashto literary activities. people of Karak mix a lot of Urdu words in Pashto. Pashto, Pashtunwali and Pashtun nationalism need to be injected more in the southern areas.

Marwats are very active in promoting and preserving their Pashtun identity. I believe they hold yearly events from major colleges to hold cultural festivities. They have local sports and arts functions too. I have not seen that any where else from Pashtunkhwa.
